The Village at Gainesville
Gainesville, FL - Assisted Living, Nursing Home, Independent Living, CCRC
For more than 30 years, The Village at Gainesville has been home to seniors who seek a maintenance-free lifestyle and value the freedom of living in a vibrant and diverse rental community. Our legacy is one of living well – living life on your terms and spending your days doing what you love most.
We empower our residents to maintain as much independence as possible by providing just the right amount of support. When you need a helping hand with daily tasks, such as dressing, bathing, taking medication or just getting around, The Village can provide as much or as little assistance as you need.
Assisted living residents enjoy access to all amenities available at The Village, including two outdoor pools, spa, fitness center and library. In addition, both our assisted living neighborhoods, Jasmine Pointe and Rose Court, feature their own dining room, recreation area and more.
Living well at The Village means finding a true sense of belonging as you connect with the community, whether that’s through independent living, assisted living or memory support. Here, you’ll thrive at every level of living … so let’s get started!

[Music] I feel so secure I mean secure in the sense that it's a gated community but I just feel secure with the people around me and I was getting lonely I didn't even realize that but I was starting to feel lonely and needed community and so when I moved in here it's so perfect for me because there is community I participate in activities but there's plenty of time for me to be by myself and just enjoying my place you know or walk around the lake I'm so free here really free finding a plumber finding electrician finding somebody to fix the roof all this kind of stuff I mean it's just a kind of junk I don't like to do here if you're it's a light bulb burns out you called maintenance and they come and replace it I really not a dirt person I don't like mowing the lawn pulling out weeds is really bad spraying for bugs I really don't miss that for whatsoever and you think that you're going to have a lot of time because you don't have to worry about those things but I think most people here immediately get involved in five or six things wait a minute I'm supposed to be sitting in the rocking chair reading a book no rocking chair and where's the book you just get involved in things and what I love about being the village is number one not having house to maintain but the other thing is it gives me the time and the freedom to do as much woodworking as I as I would like one of the things that attracted me to Gainesville is the cultural atmosphere I love the performing arts and the museums and all the things they are to do and then there's all kinds of classes to take here and things to do and I just after looking at a lot of different places and talking to people in those places I felt like this was the place that we needed to be we were ready to get off the coast I'm away from hurricanes yes I'm surprised about how easy my life is I don't know what I expected you know I really don't but I just I love choosing what I want to do each day I think for a person that say they quote not ready yet I would say I think you should start considering it after you get onto Medicare and it's actually a very personal decision how are you physically you know how are you financially but you need to take a look at it and you really need to realize that you know the old saying is that nobody gets through this world alive you want to be proactive I have seen a half a dozen friends that had nice houses you know it did very well and then one of the partners falls down as a breaks a limb or something and they're in bed they're on the second story of a house but recognized that that's that's next up on the agenda do you want to be a little ahead of it or do you want to be behind the curve so it's very important to give that some thought give us some serious thought Iran its people the other day who were here and they were looking and they were saying we're not quite ready to make the move and I would say when you get to that point make the move go ahead and move while you still can get around and do things for yourself and then if you get here and get weaker or unable to do things then you know you've got people around to understand it can help you and and it's just easier I've seen it people come they didn't move until they had to it takes them longer to adjust I think the thing I would say is do it while you're able and before you're forced to because if you wait until you really think you need such a facility your health may be to the point where it's even more stressful

[Music] downsizing was a major concern it's just a matter of starting and saying have I used something how long has it been sitting around does anyone else want this and you have to go through that entire process and as you go through these things we'll pull something up say well this is my little doll that I had in bed do I still need this little teddy bear you know all the teddy bears been in a box for 20 years I haven't used teddy bear so maybe teddy bears got a goal we all have things that we haven't used for a year or two or sometimes four or five or ten do you need them get rid of them I was lucky to have some friends who we just agreed they were gonna tell me what to leave that worked most of the time I agreed with them there were a couple of things that we said I said no I want that and but I mean they knew what I used and what I didn't use and why keep it but we lived in our home for 44 years we thought about what we wanted to take what we wanted to leave what we wanted to throw away we made different piles of stuff if I was going to use it was one of the criteria was up would I ever use it if I didn't use it it didn't come and some things just got thrown away and going through things everything is emotional because whatever you have is that you possess comes with an emotion when I started packing up and friends and family would come over I noticed that I had way more than I realized and thinks I really wasn't easy things I think I do someday you know and they'd all say jewel and you're not gonna need this you're not gonna oh yeah yeah yeah but I started listening to them and I really did get rid of most things now I have an advantage because I was an organizer for 22 years so I know how to do this you know when it's your own it's very different but one of the things we found very helpful was the page on the village website where they have scale drawings of the apartments and they also have scale drawing and furniture we figured out through that exactly where the furniture would go and exactly what furniture we could take and what we had to leave so when the when the movers were ready to move us in we handed them a copy of that page and they pretty much could put the furniture in without us having to say put it here put it there and one of the things I did was I put orange stickers on everything in the house that was coming with so that I didn't have to stand over them and ask them have them ask me what what's going with us I've got some things in storage now and I said yesterday you know I don't even remember what's in storage that means I don't need them get rid of them throw them away give them to Goodwill get out of pipe a storage for something you're never gonna use you know the idea is here's a trash can you're sick am I gonna save maybe here's again I'm not sure about today then go back through that till you end up with the pile that you're gonna bring with you I didn't bring back the other stuff I never used it you know it's been sitting in drawers don't really miss it don't really [Music]
