Hansen House - Council Bluffs is a splendid assisted living community in Council Bluffs, Iowa. It is within pleasant Pottawattamie County which is part of the Hawkeye State.

At Hansen House, we take community seriously. We want you to feel as comfortable as possible and that means bringing an unrivaled level of care and consistency to everything we do.

Our Council Bluffs location has just 35 units. That small size means the staff and community members really get the chance to know one another.

Bigger is not better. Household models with eighteen or less units create a better quality of life for those that live in them. The Hansen House is designed so the residents feel at home and so they can more readily recognize the purpose each area serves. Like many homes, our kitchen is the heart of our house and is open for all.

Some with memory loss enjoy walking and continuously exploring the environment. Here they can do so in a safe and comforting atmosphere. Our home is designed with one level. There are no steps to worry about.

All residents have their own rooms that include a bathroom and shower. Their privacy promotes independence, more control, and better sleep. Residents can shut and lock their door anytime they want.

The smaller size means both the Council Bluffs and Harlan locations are able to form closer bonds with one another than they would living at a larger facility, but it also allows our employees to figure out how best to serve our residents.

Once that bond is established, we never break it by sending an employee to work at another Hansen House location. And, in instances where a resident might need a bit more care, we see to it that they do not have to move if they don’t feel comfortable doing so.  

It’s the reason why residents are happier at Hansen House than any other assisted living facility.

Social activity is a highlight at Hansen House. From small gatherings to large attenders, a mixture of laughter and reminiscing are integral to a balanced, fun-filled day. Chair exercises blended with the outdoors, and courtyard walks throughout the week, round out our exercise program. Activities are geared to promote thought process, encourage participation, touch one or more of the five senses, and incorporate music with song lyrics. Music and singing stimulates the mind’s ability to remember part, and in some instances, all lyrics to a song. Our program includes spiritual, physical, mental, creative, and social aspects.
