Cottages at Salem is a superb assisted living community in Salem, Illinois. It is within exciting Marion County which is part of the Prairie State.

Our Vision: To provide meaningful support and care as elders continue their life’s journey by providing a unique atmosphere of a family-style residential home in a secure gated neighborhood.  The Cottages at Salem will change your view of memory care communities.  Our 1 caregiver to 7 elder ratio allows us to maintain normalization in the elder’s daily routine.  We treat each elder with the respect, understanding, and the compassion they deserve.

Alzheimer’s disease is a degenerative brain disease and the most common cause of dementia.  Dementia is also caused by other diseases and conditions.  It is characterized by a decline in memory, language, problem-solving, and other cognitive skills that affects a person’s ability to perform everyday activities.  This decline occurs because nerve cells (neurons) in parts of the brain involved in cognitive function have been damaged and no longer function normally.  People in final stages of the disease are bed-bound and require around-the-clock care.

Our unique approach and unique gated neighborhood provides purpose and passion with security in a lovely setting just like home.  Our caregivers are professionally trained to care for those with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.  Every cottage caregiver receives special training in handling the unique challenges that comes with helping individuals with memory impairments.

The number of Americans with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia continue to grow each year as the size and proportion of the US population age 65 and older continue to increase.  Many specialized memory care units are needed as the baby boom generation ages.  The Cottages at Salem are unique in that we provide all the benefits of assisted living and are solely dedicated to memory care.  The ratio of 1 caregiver to 7 elders allows more interaction and assistance with each individual.

At The Cottages at Salem, individuals are able to move throughout the bright and engaging community.  Our memory care neighborhood provides a safe and secure atmosphere with many therapy and club programs.  We will offer music, art, health, and pet therapy as well as many social club programs to prevent boredom and promote social interaction.  Our programs and services are designed with each individuals’ abilities and passions in mind. We strive to provide new learning opportunities and experiences as well as capturing memories of past hobbies and abilities.

The Cottages at Salem wants to partner with you in order to maintain the normal rhythm of the day. We will accomplish this by allowing our elders to actively participate in our gated community with the purpose and passion they have always had. The Cottages are managed and nurtured with associates who are caring, respectful, and patient.

We see family involvement as a key factor in an elder resident’s quality of life. Providing attention and assistance to the families of memory-impaired residents is as important to The Cottages as serving the elders themselves. We encourage families to create remarkable moments by connecting on a new level of compassion and acceptance. Remembering the event isn’t important- what matters is experiencing the joy and the moment with their loved one. We strive to make meaningful days for our elders by learning their life story and allowing them to continue with their journey.
