The Little Sisters of the Holy Family, with its Motherhouse located in Potomac, Maryland was established in 1996 by Mother Domina Son. We belong to the Archdiocese of Washington. Our mission is to help Korean Americans in the United States of America.
Our community is in the beginning stages. We work at three parishes and at our assisted living facility. We have a lot of work to do for Young Adults and Youth, especially, those of the 1.5 generation and the 2nd generation. We expect many young women to join our community to work together with us.
The charism of the community is to live a life modeled on the meekness, and most importantly, the love of the Holy Family of Nazareth and particularly seeking to embody its goals of poverty, humility and service to the poor.
The life of Christ inspires us to devote ourselves to care for the sick, elderly, poor and young, especially Korean-Americans with great charity and joy. We are solicitous for the spiritual, physical, psychological and social well-being of the people for whom we care.
The primary apostolate of the community is to care for the elderly through the nursing home. The sisters commit themselves to care for the old and sick who do not have anyone to turn to.
The sisters may engage in parish ministry by teaching catechism and by directing spiritual retreats, especially for the young.
The special ministry is the pastoral care of immigrants and counseling for those who are in need.
We labor together caring for our convents by cleaning, gardening and cooking. Mother Superior emphasizes the practice of the "little virtues" like tolerance of each other as the means of forming the hearts of the Sisters to be good in their apostolate and in their community life.
