Constructed in 1914, The Clarke Hotel was the premier destination for social and political events in the Hastings area for many years. Fully renovated in 1987, The Clarke was transformed into The Kensington and earned a place on the National Register of Historic Places. The Kensington is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Hastings — just a stroll away from shopping, banks, and everybody’s favorite cookie shop.
Original tiled floors, marble pillars and polished brass rails on the open staircase and upper mezzanine surround the comfortable living room with elegance. The adjoining game room walls feature ceramic brick and life-size murals painted by a traveling Italian artist in 1916. Ornate plaster work graces the walls and vaulted ceiling of the beautiful dining room.
Casual furnishings make our cozy family room the ideal place for visitors of all ages to gather, and the private dining room accommodates many family lunches, club meetings and more.
New families meet each other at a special dinner, where they’re introduced to our Heart to Heart program. Family Traditions events are planned throughout the year, including the annual summer picnic and Christmas supper. These and other family services provide fellowship and support, as well as special occasions for loved ones to enjoy good times together.
The Kensington also offers Evergreen Court, a state-of-the-art memory care neighborhood. A secure, private residence located right in the building, it is specially designed to accommodate those with Alzheimer’s and other memory loss conditions.
With its own dining room, living rooms and just twelve bedrooms, Evergreen Court feels like a family home, yet provides a high staff-to-resident ratio, daily hands-on activities, and familiar, reassuring routines.
Residents stay busy and connected through a variety of opportunities. The Busy Bees is a resident action group that performs volunteer services in the community. There are many classes, Bible studies and exercise options. Bus trips are scheduled every week for shopping, picnics, crane watching — even fishing.
Students from area schools come often to perform or participate in intergenerational learning programs. The Chorus of the Plains rehearses in the Ballroom every Monday evening, and many Hastings area civic groups meet at The Kensington too.
Personalized programs, family events, and staff devoted to making each day special… together these factors make life at The Kensington an experience to remember.
Our services and amenities give residents and their families these priceless benefits: peace of mind; independence; safety and support; companionship; and more choices to make the most of living each day.
