and holistic growth of our residents we designed and built the Life Enrichment Center or as we call it the LEC we invite each of you to come and join in the fun and take advantage of this multifunctional community hub that offers a tremendous collection of amenities and opportunities I just enjoy the grandeur of the Life Enrichment Center truly does enrich our lives there is nothing lacking from it for me living here every everyday meets my it meets my needs it's really a cool cool facility the Life Enrichment Center provides all on urban residents the opportunity to discover a wholesome lifestyle by maintaining or physical mental and social well-being whatever your level of ability the LEC will have something for you come to a facility like this where we have every activity to choose from and do it now while you can enjoy every minute of your life and every day we wonder have we ever got along without this facility and how grateful we are that it's here and it's something that we can truly benefit from and we do we all know that maintaining a healthy weight and getting enough exercise each week increases our lifespan and makes us feel better our partnership with the countryside YMCA provides you the opportunity to work out on land or in the water with friends in a class or individually with the support of the YMCA staff located in the downstairs area of the LEC the Countryside YMCA provides you with a fully equipped fitness center an indoor pool a hot tub with an easily accessible chairlift men's and women's locker rooms and an indoor walking track all available free of charge to our residents it's a fantastic facility I use the fitness center first and then the pool we have an indoor walking track so that if the person wants to do so many laps they can do that inside don't have to worry about the weather outside and so we have people at all times of day and night out there doing their laps around the walking track I'm a fast Walker so at dinnertime when most people's down to dinner I didn't put on the speed for a nominal fee you can choose from a variety of land and water classes and activities such as senior sit and tone aqua cardio and water stretch on staff our YMCA certified lifeguards and personal trainers who provide the guidance you need to increase your personal goals of well-being some of us are more comfortable with exercise some are not but I can assure every resident that we have a caring staff and a facility that is more than handicap accessible oh it's wonderful it's wonderful we have won a great the best machines you can get and the people that run at the YMCA is just great and I really love it the personnel of the Y are right here for us it can be a one-on-one experience that the trainer will go with us from one machine to another instructing us as to how to use it and they stay right there with us evaluating how we are doing swimming is one of my joys I love swimming I'd love to go into the pool I just enjoy being able to be in the water to swim it is very relaxing for me and it's just one of the things I've loved to do since second grade it's a warm water shallow pool and it's very accessible certain mental changes are inevitable as we grow older but learning something new can be energizing and engaging as well as providing the chance to meet new residents with similar interests in our creative arts center there are many activities available in which you can participate with the guidance of an experienced instructor you have the opportunity to try your hand at drawing painting designing beaded jewelry sewing knitting crocheting making greeting cards and many other artistic endeavors the creative arts center also organizes trips to various art museums and galleries in Cincinnati Dayton and beyond I think each of us has a little bit of creativity that we need to vent and it's a wonderful place because there's a whole gamut of Arts in the creative arts center and we have an absolutely fabulous artist who is the coordinator and it's just a wonderful place to creativity also extends into our woodshop area where you can work with our volunteer craftsmen in gaining hands-on woodworking knowledge and skills it's a workshop filled with the latest woodworking technology and equipment make a replica wood model train a whimsical folk art wind-up toy or a decorative piece of wall art it's a woodworkers dream a place to enjoy design create and bring an idea to completion I know there's a lot of woodworkers out there when you got a place like this you can come too and you can do the same thing you were doing at home and even better there's just there's no waiting you must come early to enjoy the activities here I'm up here probably four days a week generally in the afternoons it's just a joy to be there and the fellowship where you can have with other woodworkers is something that is something special what a blessing that must be to someone who has been a hands-on kind of person with wood and it's just wonderful to see the things that they do come enjoy the amenities of our first floor by relaxing or serving the net in the reading computer room or gathering with friends in the community room with this magnificent fireplace I always use the computers in my area that I live in and it didn't have all the things that the computers here have and so I really enjoy using these computers because I can do I can do all the extra things that the other ones didn't have now you really appreciate that The Life Enrichment Center activity rooms are inviting places to take part in our exercise classes or participate in an assortment of programs and lectures that are entertaining stimulating and informative these might include a trivia night antique sharing poetry club readings a variety of historical lectures from our lifelong learning program or a challenging game of Mexican dominoes if you're involved here obviously you become more in touch with some of the some of your neighbors and some of the other residents here and that just brings in the Life Enrichment Center building a strong network of support through friends is another way of making us healthier and happier we meet people in a pool he meets people when he does the fitness I meet certain people when we're going to the beauty shop this creative Art Center anywhere we go and this LEC has been a real asset everybody's life is enriched by the people around them and by the facilities and the opportunities around them to socialize together to think think try the Bistro for a bite to eat at lunch invite some friends to play cards meet your girlfriends at the salon for a mani-pedi or gather your friends in the sports club for a round of pool or to catch the ball game take part in a bocce ball tournament or try ballroom dancing The Life Enrichment Center offers countless ways to build and maintain friendships we have a wonderful beauty shop yeah it's very nice you know I like to have my hair done but I'm too lazy to do it myself and I'm not too talented but I I come every weekend here my hair done and the beauticians are so supportive and wonderful to all the residents it's quite a luxury and I mean it's the you know the charge is minimal and I think having those kinds of things done make a woman feel better I have my nails done we have pedicures never had had a pedicure in our life and to just have it so convenient means a lot to us down in the other end of the building is a little Bistro or we can have a meal we might do that today we might do that today you haven't prepared anything no no well we will do that today then okay once in a while after swimming if we got up late and had to get to swimming and didn't get breakfast we will stop and have breakfast the Life Enrichment Center helps to make the spirit of Otterbein shine it comes to life through the many choices made available to everyone it's just it speaks for itself when you walk in here those that use this facility are enriched in all kinds of ways social physical spiritual this is not a home in the way that you think about some place that you go to live out the rest of your life this is the place that you come to live fully live fully and you don't worry about the rest of your life they here it's just there's just so many things to do I think people just need to focus on what they feel strongly about and it's here it's here for them to enjoy putting this building here with all of its aspects has made all of our lives enriched in ways that never would have been possible this is my home and I want to make it that way and I want everything that I would have had where I'd lived before and I get that here what a great name for a place like this it's every bit of
