[Music] in the life of every community there's an opportunity and a need to reinvent yourself periodically and Brazos Towers does just that we're just simply satisfying an increasing demand for quality housing for seniors that are active I knew that the boomers were stampeding down on on retirement and that nice facilities were going to be in short order we chose something high up because my parents had had a high condo in Florida and we just loved that and we have a view of the Medical Center where we spent much of our career I will say that where both of us are very impressed by the board of directors and people that seem to be involved with the financial management of the organization they seem to be very sophisticated very skilled people in the late 1950s there were some Presbyterian ministers and elders who got together in this town they were concerned about the senior population in their churches so they formed a committee to do a study on what could be done and out of that committee came by you manner I had lived in Houston from 49 to 52 it was the Christian education director at Second Presbyterian Church and that was during the time when Holly Hall was just getting started and people beginning to talk about well you know maybe the Presbyterians ought to do something about a place for retired people to live it is the general practice of moderate of presbytery in the filtered church to have some sort of a legacy when he leaves and my husband was moderated and he came up with the idea of biomatter my husband's mother had been Dean the hospitals here and had a lot of friends that work widows are had never married and there was no place for them to go when the houses are promised got something so he came up with this idea retired schoolteachers missionaries people who had never really had a home and this was the ideal place for them to to come and for it to be their home dr. Charles King he was a minister first church and he came up to him and he said HAP I like your idea meet me at my office at 10 o'clock in the morning some wouldn't happen won't give me ten o'clock dr. King had everything lined up he had the lion he had the bike he had the architect he had the Builder he I don't think he picked up the phone and called all these people from this congregation and they were all lined up Brazos Towers at Bayou manner is Houston's premier Senior Living address residents enjoy exceptional upscale living complemented by a full array of amenities and services all designed to support a healthy lifestyle I'm looking forward to not having any of the headaches of maintaining a house and yet having a really beautiful home to live in well I don't like to cook so I look forward to the new casual dining experience that looks out on the atrium and it'll be only an elevator ride away at Brazos Towers at Bayou Manor it's our goal to lift the burden of home ownership so residents can engage in activities they enjoy empower is our wellness program that encompasses four dimensions of healthy living mind body heart and soul through a wide variety of opportunities residents develop intellectually physically socially and spiritually a study was done by the MacArthur Foundation and it was determined that if people can improve all four of those aspects of their life they can live a long healthy more active life we've got a new event room that'll hold almost 200 people we've also got bracelet cafe which will bring a new casual dining venue to this community that's overlooking the existing courtyard we got underground parking for all the new residents of the towers we've got a lot of new things happening here by you man I can hardly wait to wake up my first morning in Brazos towers up above the tree level welcome to my light filled living room look out my big window and see the city of Houston skylines spread out and a panorama before me that sounds like a real good change to me the socialization here at Brazos Towers is unbelievable the residents are so inviting and they want you to come and be a part of it and so do I [Music]

we're designing and building something that's new here by you matter and we're calling it Brazos towers in the life of every community there's an opportunity and a need to reinvent yourself periodically and brazos towers does just that Brazos towers is going to help redefine repurpose the community here by you manner and it's going to do that providing some new amenities some new services some new programs and residential opportunities that they don't have right now in addition to that we are satisfying an increasing demand for quality housing for seniors that are active in 1958 the Brazos presbytery had a concern over what was the church's responsibility to the elderly and a bunch of Presbyterian ministers and elders got together and did a study they formed a committee they did a study they came back with the thought that there needed to be a retirement community for people to go to where they could have productive lives and be of service to people they came up with this location 41 41 south braeswood at the time 50 years ago i'm sure this was not very close to Houston far out in the country but today we're centrally located we're so close to the Medical Center the galleria the theater we're not that far from downtown you can see reliant center for most all of our apartments on this side so it's a great location today the whole project just is so appealing I think with the you know everything they're going to have the pool and the fitness center and the restaurant the whole program looks really wonderful the new amenities that Bayou manor are going to offer endless possibilities for residents for social connectedness and just to have a purposeful lifestyle we've got a new event room that will hold almost 200 people that'll offer dance room environment I don't have a stage it'll have the ability to have a number of different functions for residents we've also got bracelet cafe which will bring a new casual dining venue to this community that's overlooking the existing courtyard we've got underground parking that'll be provided for all the new residents of the towers as well as some additional covered parking that'll be for the existing residents so we've got a lot of new things happening here by you manner health and wellness is a huge thing for the residents will have a fitness area with the equipment that's specifically designed for seniors we will have an aerobics area and a fabulous pool one of the things that we can be certain up with this new generation of incoming seniors is they're going to demand more choice more options brazos towers is well positioned to offer a wide range of apartment living styles we've got 13 unique apartment styles that offer fully equipped kitchens washer dryers walk-in closets expansive windows in addition to that we've got options for resonance perhaps to customize their units in a way that will bring them added value and allow them to personalize it on an individual apartment you buy you manner is a CCRC and what I mean by that is we have all levels of care we have independent living assisted living a nursing facility and we have a memory support area so what that means to someone who comes to live it by you manner is they move in and they don't have to worry about moving again they get to know the people here they see us every day if they should have to move to another area of care assisted living or the nursing facility they still see us we're familiar faces to them we're still their family we like the attitude of the folks that serve earlier like there's a genuine concern for everyone they serve two or three years ago my oldest daughter Kim the one in North Carolina said mother have you ever thought about where what you might like to do if you can't live by yourself I thought about bad and I thought well that's really a very you know a very good point I think our daughter benefits because she has peace of mind that we are in a secure and safe place one of the primary benefits that we see is that our children will not have to take care of us that we will be self-sufficient as we are now but that they will not be looking forward to running in to check on us or taking care of us or whatever the new processed hours i think is going to do some tremendous things for improving resident lives here at bayou matter it's going to add a unique social connectedness that these residents have not only with themselves but with people in the outside community it's going to give them new meaning new purpose better health and vitality with all the programs and services that are being offered the socialization here is unbelievable the residents are so inviting and they want you to come and be a part of it and so do i you
