we are Marian and Dave Ulmer and we have been at a Costigan for eight months now right right and we moved here from Denver and we are very happy campers we love it here we have met some wonderful people here at social life is it's phenomenal you people call you they know you're new and even now that we're not sort of anymore they're calling let's have dinner and you know your calendar fills up you can bring your own wine to dinner which is always nice the people here are so hospitable they're very friendly there and I'm talking about you know at the residents to and I'm talking about the staff I'm talking about service people right right everybody is accommodating and it's fabulous it is just really good not only that we can sign up for the trips we've gone to the Embarcadero in San Diego for programs we've gone we're going to Riverdance we've gone to all kinds of things Balboa Park you name it well we also went to on a tour of Camp Pendleton which is sort of the highlight of the beginning of our moving here all right I do line dancing and you won't do that but we do cardio together we do uh you know but we just really we enjoy everything that is offered here you couldn't be busy 24/7 here with the schedule everything that's awesome wouldn't you say free you have to pick and choose because there's just so many things in you you can't do everything well known that you can go the beach once a week and do the beach walk you can go the wiggle them once a week into the lagoon walk we've got the trail right outside the property that we walk which is great and I walked to the forum a lot and of course lower walkers and that really everything is so accessible and that's wonderful the food is excellent it is excellent in fact our son-in-law is just got an honorary Doctorate degree from Johnson Wales in Denver and the chef in Avalon here is a graduate of Johnson Wales as is one of the managers self-service people are excellent and we enjoyed both both dining rooms and a lot of friday friday nights we go over to the other one because we like to go the movie we have a theater here you know and we have movies and of course our grandkids are 12 and 14 they they love to dine over here so when we don't use our credits and of course they come over and they keep saying we're going to the cruise ship for dinner that's a big all this their cruise ship or didn't them are retired registered nurse long term for long term care how did that enter into our decision and I have to say it did enter it because you know if we fall if we do whatever have a stroke whatever it's here and that was a real consideration for us we never know what's going to happen so far so good ah but it's there and it's uh it's a comfort to know that it's a real comfort to know that are the activities we do that we could only do here know the number one thing is we joined as we mentioned earlier the Glen Aires which is a choral group made up of people that live here and you know I think it's like life it's all in the choices you make and you can be as happy here and it's active here as you choose to be because it's all there I have to tell you I would tell the people please don't wait I waited I look back now and I wish that we probably should have come sooner because we can't we can't predict the future we've only got today so I just think that if you're thinking about moving go for it absolutely go for it

you I can't tell you the pleasure we have had living here it's like being on a cruise ship we keep saying this is like living in a resort on a scale of one to ten I would say that our experience has been a 12 I felt coming here was extending the enjoyment of my life enormous ly living alone my life would be closing down a little bit instead of opening up and broadening which it has done here I feel like Tina again when I go by the mirror maybe it isn't 18 the inside yes I had actually looked at six different senior communities most of them were high-rises and I was not going to settle for that the place itself is just beautiful a lot of effort has been put into the aesthetics sometimes I walk through the clubhouse and I say I never imagined I could have lived in a place as beautiful as this this is 65 acres of absolutely beautiful grounds maintained perfectly the beauty is everywhere we downsized our house that we enlarged our life there's so much going on here we have so many places to go and so many things to do they've got everything here that you could possibly want from the library to the swimming pool fitness room the cutting course out there the bocce courts there's plenty of walking trails there's biking trails entertaining is so easy if you want to play card to say I'll beat you in the card room if you want to have dinner we'll meet you at dinner everything is done for you and you're just here to relax and enjoy yourself I don't think I've ever been as spoiled or as carefree in my life as I've been since I've been here there's such an interesting mix of people here than the stories that people can tell and the lives that they have lived up to this point and what's going to go on from now on it's incredible I wouldn't have been expanding my social venue I would have been limiting it at this time the expansion has been absolutely fabulous one of the beauties of coming and being here is that I don't have to do any more gardening work I don't have to even do housekeeping because that's all included in the amenities here I don't have to take care of a house anymore and all that goes with it I just didn't want to fool with that anymore I'm so glad that I don't have to get up on the roof and clean the gutters anymore Carol was concerned about my falling off a ladder or falling off the roof I've been very happy to see that it has really cut down the number of bills that pay each month since all the utilities all those things are included it's funny because I go to my Bell box and I think oh no bills you know it's just really nice we were given a general price range of what the monthly cost would be and I assumed in my thinking oh it'll be a little more than that and it hasn't been having the option for having a villa is good and everything is doable to make it your own we had the opportunity to change it according to our style we have a lovely dining area the kitchen is bright and cheerful the master bedroom has a huge window so the light in there is lovely to me it just makes the house our home it's our home we have three bedrooms one is my husband's office one is my room two baths and kitchen I don't use a kitchen pretty much because the food here is so wonderful the food is sensational the desserts and everything are all homemade by a pastry shop and they are out of this world lots of choices lots of courses we have enough appetizers and we're having salads and entrees and dessert every night our family just loves to come visit us here they love the dining room even the young grandson does we have something here that's very special it's a facility on campus that we can use for rehabilitation recovery from an injury I consider myself to be quite a fit person and I'd like to exercise but one day and I caught my foot and fell and broke my hip the care that I received was just superior to anything I ever could have gotten had I been at home and I hate to think what my life would have been like if I had been in my home isolated in the hills with no assistance other than for my poor husband who would be stuck with taking care of me this is just a great place to be you really got to think of the future in the future is are you doing your job to take care of the one you love it gives me great peace of mind to know that if something happens to me she's taken care of this is a person I care about that's the reason I did not want this to be something that was decided for me and I find that there's a lot of satisfaction in that knowing that I'm still very much in control of my own future we got to thinking of what's going to happen when we get older who's going to take care of us we didn't want to put this on our children when we came here we gave each other a big gift and together we gave a gift to our children that is the peace of mind that as we age we are taking care of we have safety and that we have health services I wish I'd done it earlier if this had been here when I was 62 I would have moved here come now and enjoy life this is a wonderful way to live don't wait come now come early my decision to come was the best thing I did for myself we're now in a living happily ever after stage and we're doing it right at the right place and that is a wonderful wonderful thing to have happen to you
