Wellness Care Senior Living is a desirable assisted living community in Oak View, California. It is within pleasant Ventura County which is part of the Golden State.
Most families who come to us are searching for help with the physical care of their loved one - a senior who is dealing with Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia. They are happy when they realize we can step in (right away) and assist with all the physical demands that a confused mind has created for their loved one...and themselves. What a huge relief!
Our goal is to develop a care plan that is specific to each individual and encompasses the "whole" person. (Wellness Care Senior Living at Ojai is not a people warehouse.)
We believe that each resident, no matter what their mental capacity, still deserves to be cared for as a unique human being...with services that meet their many needs, an understanding that they are living life as best they can and a deep respect for the special person that is underneath their disease.
The reality of someone with dementia can be confusing, frustrating, and even frightening. A person may not remember the name of their daughter...or their own name. Yet, they may clearly remember they are supposed to be at their son’s home today (in Ohio) and start walking there. Or they may become paranoid that you are stealing their socks or hoard items from around the house.
We offer specific services for our residents who are living with Alzheimer's disease, dementia and other forms of memory impairment. These services require special licensing and special training, along with a tremendous amount of patience and understanding.
The term hospice comes from the Latin "hospitium", which means guesthouse or shelter for the weary traveler. However, its current usage does not describe a place. It is a concept of care that addresses medical, spiritual and psychological issues. It does not focus on a cure, but places a high value on a person’s comfort and dignity.
Wellness Care Senior Living at Ojai offers hospice care to our residents who have been told by their doctor they have less than six months to live. In other words, we offer compassionate end of life care that is guided by the resident’s wishes.
Studies have shown a direct correlation between the amount of activity and the quality and longevity of life. For those who suffer from memory loss and confusion, activity can help reduce anxiety and maintain higher levels of functioning.
We encourage our residents to be as active as they can be. Our activity program is designed to:
- Match personal abilities.
- Create enjoyment and energize.
- Provide social stimulation.
- Fulfill a purpose in the care plans.
We understand that some of our residents are more adventurous and social than others. Some would rather keep busy doing things in which they feel most comfortable. For the more extroverted, we encourage shared activity, mingling, trying new things and extending past their comfort zones.
For those residents who happen to have limitations and special needs, we tailor many of our activities to allow them to join in.
We also realize that some people may choose to be left alone, especially residents new to Wellness Care Senior Living at Ojai who are struggling with change and unrecognized faces. So we are patient and let them adjust at their own pace. Usually, as their comfort level grows, so does their level of involvement.
There are many things we do on a regular basis that are ingrained into the caring culture of Wellness Care Senior Living at Ojai. Some address the care of our residents. Others address their life-style. Each takes into consideration what is best for the individual and what is required in their care plan.
