Fremont Home Care - Elm is a wonderful assisted living community in Canon City, Colorado. It is within appealing Fremont County which is part of the Centennial State.
It can be very difficult for a senior or someone dealing with mental illness, who has been independent all their life, to ask for or accept help. It can be very challenging for a family member to provide that help while also challenged with other family responsibilities, work, limited time and energy, and/or inexperience with issues faced by the those in need of care. And the tension created by one or both can make life very unpleasant.
Our programs are designed to care, support and add personal fulfillment to lives of both the elderly and those dealing with mental illness. Yes, this is unusual. We have found that mixing the generations creates positive experiences for both groups. They naturally seem to learn from and provide support for each other.
Clients love that our caregivers serve a dual purpose. They provide the care needed while maintaining one's dignity and self-esteem. They provide the independence desired while offering assistance when needed.
In addition, they help family members maintain their personal bonds and meet their other individual responsibilities with less stress and more energy. This allows them to spend more quality time together. Instead of focusing on chores and needs when they get together, at Fremont Home Care they relax more and enjoy one another's company.
Most families who come to us are searching for help with the physical care of their loved one - a senior who is struggling with getting through the day on their own. They need help with one or more of their activities of daily living (ADL's). Family members are happy when they realize we can step in (right away) and assist with all the physical demands that challenge their loved ones...and themselves. What a huge relief!
Then, for many, comes a bit of a surprise. We may catch people off guard when we start addressing other issues that are very important for adding more quality into their loved one's life:
- Personal Preferences (Resident & Family)
- Social Stimulation
- Physical Activity
- Dietary Needs & Likes/Dislikes
- Spiritual Beliefs & Support
- Health Care Needs
Our expanded focus allows us to build a balanced strategy and plan. It also enables us to reduce symptoms of depression in a person with dementia and create a personal comfort zone.
Our goal is to develop a care plan that is specific to each individual and encompasses the "whole" person. We believe that each resident, no matter what their physical, mental and emotional capacity, still deserves to be cared for as a unique human being...with services that meet their many needs and an understanding that they are living life as best they can.
We encourage our residents to be as active as they can be. Our activity program is designed to:
- Offer variety and choice.
- Match personal abilities.
- Create enjoyment and energize.
- Provide social stimulation.
- Fulfill a purpose in the care plans.
We understand that some of our residents are more adventurous than others, so we take them out and explore. Other residents we know would rather keep busy where they feel most comfortable, so we offer plenty for them to do at Fremont Home Care. Also, for those residents who happen to have limitations and special needs, we tailor many of our activities to allow them to join in.
We also realize that some people may choose to be left alone, especially new residents struggling with change and new faces, so we are patient and let them adjust at their own pace. Usually, as their comfort level grows, so does their level of involvement.
