[Music] [Music] [Music] it's very much a family for everyone if you if you notice as you see people going down the hallways everybody's always saying hydration they're there nodding their there at least making some gesture so it's a very very friendly place we are not just staff we are family members they're all our grandparents we're all their grandchildren and they even call each other that sometimes because it's that close it really is that close what we liked about the palms is that you don't feel that you are in a nursing home and assisted living place it's more like you're in a beautiful apartment building with a lovely restaurant in there is that you feel you are home and all the residents have that feeling too and they make friends and I socialize and it's not changing the life too much from what they had before when they were independent there is family extended family those of us whose children of North it has just become an extended family for us and I'm sure that's the way it is for many people when she first we had to put her into assisted living at first when I had to move her there it was more than actually was on the phone complaining this and that everything was over she's come here and I can't find her I've called her three times this week he's not in a room I leave messages so yes it's more like she's here as a family member if you need something that right there helping her out so it really is more of a family atmosphere like you would have at home The Palms is is a family and it doesn't matter whether your resident or a staff member we are all family and we spend a lot of time here as staff so essentially the residents do become our second family and so we treat them as family and the residents treat us as family also they are my family you can ask them I treat them every one of my family the dynamics you are part of these patients lives on a daily basis tomorrow and you treat them I want my parents to be treated the way I treat my patients I'm it's very important you're in their home it's a whole different atmosphere because it's their safe haven so it gives it can be difficult but it's also a very good opportunity cuz patients tend to heal better at home than in the hospital yeah that's one of the things that really also attracted me here is the definite feeling of family and that is something we work very hard to nurture it I think there was a time when people thought that they would go to a nursing home to die and we believe that we want people to come here to live and to have it as good a life as they can have and so we do feel like family when someone is in pain someone's ill we when someone passes away we grieve all these things you know I do regular visiting so that I can get to know who they are and it's very much a family very much a family [Music]

we really appreciate the spiritual emphasis here it that has been a part of this this group since its inception there's such such importance is put on that we are strongly encouraged to new very make you know the spiritual side part of everybody's life the spiritual needs of the residents are important because when you look at holistic care part of that is the spiritual aspect so not only do we want to care for the residents physical needs emotional needs but the spiritual is very important I think that it's important to have spiritual needs addresses is because the people that we serve here come from a time when that was very important in their lives and we do have two chaplains on staff and they are always there for for our residents to do to see their needs sometimes it's just to talk to somebody sometimes it's because it renews their faith or just because they just feel good having someone there that they can talk to faith is very important especially when you I find the older I get the more spiritual I'd become and it is a sense of comfort to know that there is spiritual care here or they will assist any of the residents to get to the church of their choice we have chapel every saturday morning and that's well attended and we have two wonderful chaplains and they make it easy and nice for you and we have a sing-along on Tuesday morning and that's always a fun if you like to sing and a lot of us do we believe that we have to take care of the body mind and spirit of our of our residents and that just helps us kind of to nab them to do to the spiritual side of their lives lot of want to continue the same relationship with a with a church that they had before they came in here and so we try to offer them something like a church so I didn't expect to come in here I've been a busy man all my life and really end up here didn't seem to be the place I wanted to be but I found after I arrived I needed what was offered here and so I took it graciously I've adjusted quite well tell I was a busy person for 60 years on suspect in ministry and for our children's sake and for us we're blessed
