it's a budding trend in our society busy baby boomers with active careers and growing children looking for a suitable living situation for their aging parents the quality of care given to seniors across America is a growing concern as the nation's population ages the importance of identifying a community's changing needs and responding with proper services is becoming paramount you already have 43 million people over the age of 65 in addition to that 13 more million over the age of 75 as people age their needs grow medical advances we've seen how much that's allowing people to become older but as they grow older the services are only going to need to increase in most arenas across the independent living assisted living and especially the post acute care one glowing example of the community answering the call and assisting its elders with Aging in Place is happening here in America's heartland Stonehill franciscan services is a faith-based not-for-profit continuing care retirement community serving older adults in and around Dubuque Iowa the Stone Hill Community was founded in the giving spirit of saint francis of assisi more than a century ago it's a dedication that continues to evolve and grow today it's that full continuum of quality services over a lifetime in a very dignified atmosphere we are real in the services that we provide and we always are looking at the realities in the environment around us as far as the reality of need the reality of what people are meeting from us and we're always responding to that need stone hills association with the Franciscan Sisters dates back to the 1800s and as times and needs have changed stone Hill has continually progressed with each evolution designed to meet the specific needs of Dubuque and surrounding communities the Franciscan Sisters have served in many different ways in Dubuque and surrounding area and we've always been honored to do that we began our care for the elderly in a formal way in 1905 and finally that led to our opening a new facility to meet federal regular nations called Stonehill care center in 1978 was a 250 bed facility it was a great honor to be involved in the lives of so many people Stone Hill is the Bewkes most comprehensive continuing care retirement community its extensive continuum of health and wellness services features health and memory care independent and assisted living therapy and rehab and a modern spacious fitness center one unique aspect of Stone hell is the fact that we look at ways to really meet the next need in Dubuque we've recently partnered to the Crescent Community Health so here at Stone Hill we will be housing a dental clinic that will serve the uninsured and the underinsured that will include residents from stone health community residents in the Dubuque and surrounding areas as well as employees you forget that you had friends at home because these people are so important to you and they love you I don't know how I could put it into words how wonderful they all are I've been here for years because of my vertebrae I really couldn't walk alone they got me to walk alone Jonathan spent hours and hours with me and now I go to the gym everyday and I work my arms and I worked my feet the greatest compliment we get when people walk through the door here at Stone Hill as they say to us you can feel what a great environment this is the minute they enter our doors and they really feel it in their experience here at stone health I would say come here you will receive everything you need they will be gracious to you they will ask you what else can we do for you never never do they come in that they don't say is there anything else I can't do for you it's marvelous we as Franciscans certainly value human life and respect the dignity of people at any age in the spectrum and so caring for the elderly has certainly been a way for us to live out that value considering the needs of the elderly and people who are sometimes so helpless and so in need of loving care it's a wonderful ministry when you look at the diversity of individuals that are going to need our services and at various levels whether it is independent whether it is at home whether it's skilled care whether it's memory care when you look at that and then you look at our environment in health care the reimbursement issues and all those components that are going to come into play we have to be smart and very creative and very innovative on how we're going to look at providing those services because if we don't manage the resources we'll have issues with people really being able to seek the care learn more today about Stonehill Franciscan services inspiring lives through togetherness compassion and faith to learn more or to schedule a tour visit Stonehill DBQ comm or call
