Iowa Veterans Home is a quaint assisted living community in Marshalltown, Iowa. It is within graceful Marshall County which is part of the Hawkeye State.
The Iowa Veterans Home was founded in 1887. We are located in Marshalltown's north west corner. Originally the Iowa Soldiers Home, the facility serves approximately 500 Iowa Veterans. We are fifth in the nation for size of State Veterans Homes. Our campus spans over 150 acres.
The Iowa Veterans Home provides a continuum of care to Iowa’s veterans and their spouses in an environment focusing on individualized services to enhance their quality of life. We're one of the largest state veterans homes in the nation and provide services to over 550 Iowa veterans at a time.
Our over 900 staff carry our our mission everyday: To provide a continuum of care to Iowa’s veterans and their spouses in an environment focusing on personal choice and individualized services to enhance their quality of life.
Each resident at the Iowa Veterans Home is assigned a primary care team. Care teams consist of primary nurse, social worker, recreation therapist, dietitian, direct care giver, and physician. These care teams, along with the resident (and if the residents chooses their family) make up the resident's core treatment planning team. The care team meets quarterly, with the resident, to discuss resident needs, concerns, and review of current plan of care.
Residential Care is where the resident cares for his/her own needs, with the exception of meals which are provided in a central dining room. These residents generally need minimal assistance with daily living activities. Medical and nursing supervision are available on regular and frequent, but not continuous, basis. At this level of care, we offer both individual rooms and couples rooms. The individual rooms share a bathroom with one additional resident. Couples rooms have a bathroom which is shared by the spouse or roommate.
Nursing Care residents require ongoing nursing supervision and/or assistance in one or all areas of physical needs and activities of daily living. Care ranges from total assistance in all daily living needs to supervision of one or two care needs. Upon admission, each resident is assigned a category of care dependent upon each resident's capabilities. Medical care is available on a regular and frequent, but not continuous, basis. At this level of care we offer both individual and couples rooms. All rooms have a private bathroom for each individual room.
Our residents live an active life based on personal choice. We encourage our resident to be as active as they would like and as their individual abilities allow. We offer on-campus activities, unit based activities, pre-arranged off-campus activities, and we are located on the Blue Line for Marshalltown Transit which allows our residents the opportunity to enjoy everything that Marshalltown has to offer.
Each of our units is assigned a recreation therapist who plan the units daily recreational activities. Unit activities are those activities which are designated for the small group of individuals located on a particular unit.
