bethenny life is a faith-based not-for-profit organization or a continuing care retirement community that's been serving central Iowa we are an organization that's been around for a hundred years we have the trust of the community and have a very strong reputation we are financially stable and viable and we are able to have as many as 250 employees step in at any time to help offer the services out in the community well we have Bethany life have worked very hard over the last many years to develop a more complete continuum of services for older adults so we can care for them where they like to be cared for but we realized there was a gap so we developed a continuing care at home model called life choices of Bethany that honors that choice and allows folks to protect their assets to be remain as independent as possible when I first started at Bethany we had many people coming there that really did not need that level of care if they needed just a little help at home but didn't have anyone to help them and they were forced to move into a nursing home because that was the only choice but life choices really is a more robust program that allows us to help people stay at home in many many in very different ways people want to stay home because it's their sanctuary it's where they have their memories it's where they have privacy and independence and total choice about what they do every single day well life choices at Bethany it offers a lot of security for children who live far away who aren't there to help their parents but want to know that they're being taken care of so we step in and take that role for children we have an advocate that's available 24 hours a day 365 days a year if you have any question about anything you really only need one phone number which is the beauty of the program when they first joined the program may not have a lot of needs from our team as their needs change over time and they require more help our advocate becomes even more essential our current members have benefited in many different ways we've done things like housekeeping we bring Christmas decorations up from the basement take them back down which sounds like a small thing but when you're an older adult that that's very helpful we maintenance services have been very important to folks home maintenance lawn care all sorts of things life choices at Bethany benefits members directly by providing for asset protection they don't need to spend all of their hard-earned money on health care they're able to stay in the community spend their dollars there be active community members and involved and asset protection for members also benefits children the thing that we hear from everybody is once they sign the contract and join the program they have peace of mind like they didn't have before offering life choices at Bethany has been a tremendous privilege for we who work at Bethany life we know that we're honoring a person's choice to stay in their home for as long as possible and that that does nothing but make us feel really good about the program you

I I met arch at Southern Illinois University and so we kind of got together and first thing you know we decided to get married we had two children wonderful daughters Gretchen and Kim and moved while we moved to Iowa State for his job for the job we've been here close to 45 years now the reason why we knew about Bethany and is it because my mother was there for to seven years I had a severe stroke and was paralyzed partially so it was a very difficult time for us but Bethenny manner took really good care of her i joined life choices they've got the knee because we didn't have any long-term care insurance and it was a concern to us so we were looking for something like life choices at Bethany but just didn't know what it was until I came along our children were really excited about the fact that we had bought into a program that would free them up a little bit or free the concerns they might have since we are so far away so this was a good thing we learned from my mother's experience how important it is to have someone close by life's choices was the best decision for us because first of all the program is designed to keep us in our home for as long as possible and frankly that's a big deal for us I mean there's a lot of peace of mind involved in that week we might not have built a new home had me not known we had this program in place we might have saved up her money for the time we had to spend it on long-term care well we had we had never built a new home we had owns up some land for quite a while like seven years here right and so we finally decided to do it we ended up going our house of 35 + years I guess to an apartment for nine months to now the house just recently so we've been in transition for a long time we really appreciate Justin Justin was wonderful in helping us to move some of the boxes from mostly from the storage unit then to help us during the move to our apartment he's got a great sense of humor that's start with and he cares about things and he helped us with some of the lifting that needed to be done and we could not have done it ourselves and Sarah looks after us she calls us what's a month and ask us how we're getting along and whether we need anything and we of course are still mobile and are able to look after ourselves but the time will come when that attention is going to be really important just so we like Sarah a lot for example even changing some of the light bulbs that are going to be high in the ceiling standing on ladders what we probably shouldn't be standing on ladders taking care of peering boxes from one to another level there are numerous things that as we age we're going to need to have help with knowing that someone's going to be there to either do it for you or find someone to help you do it possibly even the mowing of the lawn was option so living in a home versus a facility for us was the answer he and life choices of evony helped us to do that we're in pretty good shape now you
