When you begin to search for a safe place for a loved one with Alzheimer’s or Dementia, you want to be assured that they will get the help they need to stay active and engaged with the world around them. Finding the right combination of care is crucial for their quality of life, and for your peace of mind.
Reflections at Garden Place, in Columbia, Illinois, is Monroe County’s first memory-supported assisted living community. Navigating the journey of dementia care can seem daunting. We feel passionately that no family should navigate that journey alone. We are especially proud of the standard of care provided by the staff. Caring for older adults with memory loss is more than just daily assistance with physical activities; we strive to be a hand to hold and a shoulder to lean on. Providing care for our residents is a privilege.
Reflections at Garden Place provides physical and emotional relief as well as peace of mind for families with a memory-challenged relative. Memory care team members undergo dementia-specific training when learning how to provide person-centered assistance with kindness, empathy, and love.
Reflections at Garden Place is an inclusive living environment where elders are free to walk around and use the entire building, secure courtyard or stroll through the garden. All elders live together in a home-like environment–interacting and supporting one another. This prevents isolation and encourages meaningful interactions. All are invited to participate or even lead activities as they are able giving them a sense of purpose.
Programming includes empathetic communication to maintain self-esteem, and to attend to the basic human needs of each individual. In addition, special attention is paid to nutrition, physical, social, and cognitive stimulation. Our Music Makes Memories program stimulates the limbic brain, and helps each person maintain a sense of self and purpose. Our Tiny Stories project allows us to record the stories we hear each day and capture them in audio recordings. The legacy of each person is maintained. Our goal is to help each individual be the best they can be despite cognitive decline while slowing the progression of impairments.
Let us care for you. Our Circle of Care™ is a short-term stay program designed to care for the family members that care for elders.
Taking a short break from caregiving often helps families refresh and de-stress when they have been providing services for a loved one recovering from an injury or living with a chronic illness.
Reflections at Garden Place offers families an opportunity to refresh and reflect while our care team members support your family member.
Adult Day Club is an innovative, non-residential program designed to encourage fun and camaraderie with other active seniors. Perhaps you have heard this called “adult day care,” but at Garden Place, we like to think of it as Adult Day Club – a group of active seniors that enjoy conversation, activities, outings, maybe a little exercise, and definitely a few laughs!
With just 19 private apartments, Reflections at Garden Place has a cozy, family-like atmosphere where residents can enjoy television, crafts, and exercise, or maybe just relax and enjoy the changing seasons from the sunroom or the secured patio. And with a convenient location, less than 10 miles from South County Center in St. Louis, our residents even get a little “retail therapy” as part of our regular outings.
At Reflections at Garden Place:
- We encourage you or your loved one to be independent when possible.
- To maintain your community contacts.
- To expand your horizons by sharing your talents, continuing to learn, and exploring the opportunity to try new things.
