[Music] we like the idea of the independence but we also like the idea that care is here if needed every day I get to see the people I serve and the people that rely on me to provide a great life for them we feel like his family we're there for each other I think being at friendship village has made me feel very very secure but also my daughter's because they know I'm taken care of for life well I was started farming right away while I was in high school even I would started blowing landed where the lake is here and at that was pasture land with just a creek going through it and matter of fact where we're sitting right here this was behind the barn and barns were back back in there as a field road going out my dad and my mother so over the last - seven acres and a house in the buildings probably around in the seventies something like that it was primarily an agricultural community the intersection of Schaumburg and result row just just southeast of friendship village was a wooded area heavily wooded preserving I think it's four and a half to five acres of natural woods it's still a growing community it's still a vital part of Schaumburg and it's a repository of a lot of wisdom my very first experience was when my grandmother moved in friendship village was newly opened they really liked it she was one of the first residents then that lived here in friendship village back in the late 70s my parents moved here pretty they were actually pretty young they were both still working full-time jobs their thing was we're gonna get in there while we're young while we're healthy well then they and they have that security of being able to move and progress from independent to assisted to healthcare if needed my husband actually said to me you know this has worked out so well for your parents we don't want to be a burden on our kids either let's get on the list we saw a few of the town houses and put our deposit down the third generation will be the third generation here cultural change happens on a continuing basis our community is no exception to that over the last forty years but what it's always been rude is this broader notion of friendship and we take that very seriously it's an extension of our core values and it's really that personification of who we are as a community who we are as a family we use that term very frequently when we talk about the relationship between our associates and our residents that we're fortunate to come to work every day in someone's home and we want to be respectful and mindful of that and embrace that and I think that's been a cultural constancy over 40 years and keep loving I think that's the most important thing is love if we love and we care I think friendship village will keep growing we tell them how much we care about them we give them that touch and we give them that hug and they love friendship villages future is bright we're going to continue to grow as an organization and not just grow in terms of bricks and mortar but in terms of the depth and the robustness of our programs we're at the point right now of just introducing our new strategic plan that more than we've ever done keeps the resident at the center of everything that we do in this community and that makes for a impetus for change that is going to be a powerful one [Music]

at friendship village and greenfield to Geneva or FSO we offer our wide range of wellness opportunities and we partner with an organization called senior fit and this organization provides us with staff and expertise and how develop great programming for our seniors anything in our aquatics and in our wellness centers these activities range from Pilates classes exercise classes one-on-one in groups exercise equipment like we have here in the gym and various activities throughout our campuses and even externally in an outside venues as well the benefits from exercises increasing your independence increasing your ability to walk increasing flexibility increasing your balance and overall feeling great about yourself when you leave our dining program which is run by Morrison our contract Dining Services they have a very broad and very robust dining offering for our residents that take into account fitness and wellness as it relates to eating habits so they have menu options that focus on healthy eating where they can get low salt diet where they can get healthy heart diets where they can find items that are rich in all the vegetables and the meats and grains that they need every day to sustain the kind of lifestyle they want to live and partake in their wellness activities and you get soup salad entree two vegetables and dessert rolls with homemade bread every day and that's just what's on the daily menu but you can choose anything off the whole menu so they're probably twelve different vegetables I mean it's just the choices of food is fabulous we have dietitians on staff we have experts that help them whenever needed and they can make appointments as well to get one-on-one counseling so everything we do is has the the social and mental well-being as part of it for example we have a very robust life enrichment program at our campus we offer over 450 plus programs a month and these are all integrated with the wellness activity is that go on so we integrate all of these things into one big offering that accomplishes both wellness social and individual spiritual activities that engage the resident in a way that excels their well-being and excels their enjoyment within our campuses we have fully vested ourselves and ensuring that wellness is an integral part of our campus it's not something we just say something we do so I would encourage anyone to come in and walk through our spaces walk through our Wellness Center in our aquatic center and see for yourself and I'm sure you won't be disappointed
