White River Lodge is an outstanding assisted living community in Bedford, Indiana. It is within exceptional Lawrence County which is part of the Hoosier State.
There comes a time when individuals and families are faced with challenging health care decisions as they advance through later stages of life. While we understand a large percentage of people don’t believe they’ll actually need the services of a “nursing home,” the reality is many do, for a variety of reasons.
When the need arises, whether it’s for short-term skilled nursing and rehabilitation after hospitalization, or for long-term skilled nursing care, we’re here to help make the process easier for you and your family. Through our unique blend of compassion, individualized health care and sense of family, you can trust that we’ll help everyone feel more comfortable during this challenging time.
At White River Lodge, our goal is to help individuals achieve their highest level of independence, regardless of their short or long-term care need. Through continued interaction with our skilled nursing and rehabilitation staff, volunteers, family and friends, White River Lodge is able to provide the touches of home so often desired in health care settings.
There has been a continual shift in where certain health care services are provided to consumers. One example is when older individuals are hospitalized for acute medical conditions and orthopedic surgeries. While hospitals remain the entry point into the health care system for many people, skilled nursing facilities, generally referred to as nursing homes, have become, more and more, an integral part of the overall health care delivery system. As such, post-surgical patient stays at nursing homes are far more frequent today than ever, and hospitals across the country are aligning themselves with quality skilled nursing facilities such as White River Lodge to ensure safe transitional care outcomes.
We recognize the distinct needs of those seeking short-term rehabilitative services. Our contracted team of therapy professionals works hard to help you regain the highest level of independence possible, with oversight from your physician and his or her knowledge of your health care needs and functional abilities. Whether you’ve experienced a stroke, heart attack, hip or knee replacement, or any other condition for which your level of independence has declined, White River Lodge is ready to work with you to regain your functional ability through our physical, occupational, speech and respiratory therapy services.
At White River Lodge, you’ll notice something very different – something conveyed by the smallest of things, like a hug, a touch and a smile. Whether it’s our nurses, certified nursing assistants or any other staff, we expect that these “little things” become commonplace. We want you to know this is simply a part of what we consider caring for the whole person. By combining these little things along with the skilled care of our nursing staff, we’re able to care for the social, recreational and nutritional needs of our residents, to help them feel both medically and emotionally secure.
As individuals age, the need for skilled nursing oversight increases with the onset or continuation of certain medical conditions. Under the care of a treating physician, nursing homes provide skilled nursing services by licensed nurses on a 24/7 basis. Common nursing treatments and procedures are connected to conditions related to diabetes, wound care, pain management, medication management, stroke and cardiac care, and intravenous feeding assistance, among many more.
Skilled nursing services can often be confused with what assisted living communities offer, but a comparison of the two environments highlights the differences. Nursing homes rely heavily on the skilled expertise of licensed nurses to carry out the treatment orders from each resident’s physician. In contrast, assisted living communities provide assistance with daily living activities. Nursing homes are needed when one’s health has declined to the point where skilled nursing oversight is necessary throughout the day and night.
At White River Lodge, we have rooms specifically devoted to serve both independent and assisted living residents. These licensed residential rooms offer full medical assistance for those who need a little help, but don’t need 24-hour nursing care. We provide peace of mind by making sure residents get their medications as directed, have three meals a day, and a comfortable place to sleep. Individuals who reside here are mostly independent and self-directed. We simply provide that little extras so they can continue to live full lives without the burden of worrying about managing their health needs.
Restorative nursing is ordered and overseen by nurses with consultation from therapists. This is different than therapy where therapy professionals provide treatment overseen by physicians. Typically, restorative nursing is needed due to a decline in skills due to chronic disease, disuse or other physiological factors. Goals of restorative nursing include restoring loss in function, maintaining restored function as well as preventing further loss in function.
