Decatur House is a superb assisted living community in Sandwich, Massachusetts. It is within enticing Barnstable County which is part of the Bay State.

We are within walking distance of several attractions including the renowned Dan’l Webster Inn, Sandwich Public Library, two churches, a newsstand, coffee shops, museums, gift shops and art galleries.

Our assisted living services are provided by an extraordinary team of professionals. The rhythm of our days at Decatur House are as unique as the wants and needs of our residents.

The following services are included in our monthly fee:

• 60-minutes of daily personal care service (bathing, grooming, dressing)
• 24-hour personal care services provided by trained staff
• Awake overnight staff
• Medication management
• State of the art safety and emergency response system
• Daily Housekeeping
• Laundry Management (includes bed, bathroom linens and personal laundry each week
• Three homemade chef-inspired meals daily prepared with locally sourced seafood, fruits, and vegetables
• Concierge medical appointment scheduling (physician, labs, therapies, and dental)

All 23 suites preserve our residents’ privacy while providing necessary services. Generous windows with mini blinds allow plenty of light and fresh air. Resident suites include a cozy sitting room,  kitchenette with microwave and refrigerator/freezer, separate bedroom, ample closets and a large bathroom with shower and many safety features. By adding their own furniture, personal belongings, special treasures, our residents make Decatur House suites their own home.

Support of our residents’ capacity to age in place is a core concept of our philosophy and values. Our smaller size allows us to adjust services and care levels to meet residents’ changing needs and to avoid having to move them to a higher level of care prematurely.

If you ask a resident or a loved one’s family what makes Decatur House different from other assisted living communities, inevitably, the answer is the personal care. We take tremendous pride in our staffing ratio (3 caregivers to 8 residents). We also provide additional training and continuing education opportunities for all our staff.

The vast majority of residents that move into Decatur House remain here without having to later move to a skilled nursing facility. Our hospice trained staff will work closely with the resident, their family, and a local hospice agency to provide the best possible care. For our residents, Decatur House is and remains their home. This is the place they know and are most comfortable. Residents have developed close friendships with other residents and with staff.
