as president and CEO I found efforts like advancing excellence are invaluable for improving upon the care of older adults and the families we serve we've been an early adopter of advancing excellence for about three years now and I've been impressed with the tools and resources they've had on their website the feedback from the residents and from the family members directly impacts the direction of our care improvement of our care and services each year staff residents and families are very much involved in the whole process of soliciting input that goes into the quality indicator our staff and our residents play two vital very different roles in quality improvement at a staff perspective performing interviews also participating in satisfaction surveys so we can uncover what their experiences with caring for the elderly on the residents side that's satisfaction their preferences how we meet those preferences are key to how we develop those indicators we really chose to focus a great deal a person-centered care indicator the reason that we really focused on that as an indicator is because the facilitation of person-centered care and how we can learn from a research perspective on how to develop new methods of advancing person-centered care is really a passion of the polisher Research Institute one of the greatest improvements that I've seen is the inherent empowerment that the direct care staff gained as a result of access to this data providing frontline staff with at a glance charts indicating green yellow or red the areas of care which are successful in the areas which need improvement gives them immediate feedback they draw people out here like I never would have imagined that my mother would be going to all these things and I can only say it's to the credit of the therapists of the people here they're able to get you to do things that maybe you never thought you could or would our residents experience is power can I have to tell you that we don't get there by luck it's completely planned we want to know what our residents love to do we want to know what their experience is and it makes me as well as staff feel great every day you
