Founded in 1929, Carter May is the first and only Catholic assisted living facility in South Carolina. Conveniently located in West Ashley suburb just outside of Charleston, we provide assisted living services for adults age 60 and older.
After an intensive renovation campaign in 2002, our facilities now include a residence with a supportive care for the retired priests of the diocese, a commercial kitchen, 6 additional rooms, a large screened in porch, and additional living areas.
In 2016 the Hospitaller Sisters of Mercy joined our ministry. The sisters provide medical support as well as spiritual support to our residents.
We provide assisted living rooms with shared or private baths as well as spacious suites featuring a living room, bedroom, private bath, and kitchenette. We also have community and private dining rooms, a beauty/barber salon, activity room, comfortable parlors, and a screened porch. Services also include 24 hour assistance, personal care, medication administration, meals, housekeeping, laundry services, recreational activities, and spiritual services. Trained staff are dedicated to providing king and compassionate care that allows our seniors to continue leading active, meaningful lives.
