minute you turn off of busy highway 50 to cross the railroad tracks and pass through the wrought iron gates of the florence presbyterian community something happens there is a piece and a comb and life just seems easy i'm here today on the comfortable front porch with the marketing director marion Howard to give us an inside look at this gorgeous 35-acre community Marion thank you for having me today well thank you for coming this is a real treat for us now the very first thing I want to ask you about is do you have to be a Presbyterian to live out here that is a myth Courtney it has been going on for as long as I can remember you do not have to be a Presbyterian we are open to all faiths well that is good to know very good to know now y'all are classified as a CCRC can you explain what that means and why that is so important I can a CCRC means that we are a continuing care retirement community which means that we have all levels of care which is three we start with our patio homes and our independent apartments then we have four levels of assisted living which is residential assisted living then we have the healthcare skill nursing center the beauty of a CCRC is that you can also come live independently and as you age you can go through the different phases which is the residential assisted and then the health care center and I understand the staff is like family and has been here several years we are very established in the state with five community statewide here in Florence we are the smallest of the five we have some staff that has been here since the day we opened here in 1981 so they are very familiar they've actually known every resident that ever came through our doors wonderful it is a very loving caring environment it's a special place I know you mentioned the cottages mm-hmm tell me a little bit about those cottages and their amenities well the cottages are really a little neighborhood of their own that's one place where we use the word community we have residents that have been here for 10 or 12 years that live in the cottages they come and they decorate their own they move in and they own those cottages for as long as they live we have maintenance free as we say there is no lawn mowing you have housekeeping we have a 30 meal plan so they eat once a day in our main dining room we have activities for the cottage residents it just is all-inclusive almost sounds like a vacation every day well I think it is I'd like to live here myself we think you said you only have a few of those left right we do now there's one last thing we wanted to talk about marrying and you are planning a spectacular event in June can you tell us a little bit about that I am really excited about the June event it's called a crystal ball we're going to have a a big band swing night that it's going to take place in our dining room in both of our dining rooms and even in a tent outside we're going to bring in a big band will have heavy hors d'oeuvres one and we will have a big time of dancing we reminisce and bringing back the forties and it is open to the community open to the community it will be on june the 17th from six to nine o'clock in the evening we would like an RSVP at if you are coming we would like to know but what is open to the public for the young and the young at heart okay well Marian I can see why the word community holds such value out here and you are doing a wonderful job and if you all would like more information please give mary ann howard a call to schedule a lunch and a personal tour or mark your calendars for june seventeenth and come out and experience the crystal ball you might just see your future out here Oh
