The Village at Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas is the only local Catholic community for senior living that offers all levels of care and is university-based. In addition, in-home care is available through our Sisters Care program. Our Connections Community Outreach provides activities such as dancing and art classes to promote healthy lifestyles and community interaction for all ages.

from the tiny acorn the mighty oak tree grows similarly a vision of caring for older adults with compassionate care and merciful love has grown into a thriving continuum of care senior living community known as the village at incarnate word I think that the energy that of all the people who have ever lived here is some not here with us dead and that makes it a very holy place today the village offers independent living assisted living Alzheimer's care extended care and in-home care and concierge services through sisters care at the village the origins of our ministry have their roots in a wonderful place called st. Francis Home for the Aged established by the Incarnate Word sisters in 1895 it was built in a garden a beautiful area where people could get a lot of fresh air and sit under shade trees mulberry pecan and oak and you know actually that describes the village campus today which is another beautiful sacred space that the sisters have created back in 1897 the sisters were so satisfied with their new ministry they changed their constitution to read one of the grandest works of charity recommended by our constitutions is the care of the aged the sisters devoted to this mission of mercy shall bestow on their charges a devoted and tender solicitude ministering within to fatigue level patience and sweetness to their every want often made unreasonable by the eccentricities of age the sisters used everything we do with the spirit of hope with their beliefs and their values and that is a real blessing to everybody who works at the village from sister Mary of Jesus War II at the turn of the century to sister Dorothy Devlin congregational leader of the Incarnate Word sisters in the mid-1980s both women saw the need for newer larger buildings that would accommodate not only the growing number of lay persons but also the elderly and retired sisters in an environment that would provide them a lifestyle that would meet their spiritual social and recreational needs we offer many different choices about you care you're living options and your quality of life while ensuring a very high standard throughout the years we've maintained and achieved either superior or deficiency free ratings on our state health inspections and even our local inspections everything is just beautiful and what makes it that way it's the nuns that have been here for so many years people here all friendly and happy and you know it makes to you it makes it easy for you to be happy people around you I live in San Antonio and San Antonio is a party city so we try to keep out our intimate and just any occasion it's a party and it is every day is different every day is is five and you never know what's going to happen there's just so much life if you have to be cared for and loved this is a place to come first of all just our name the village at incarnate word incarnate word is another name for Jesus Christ and so that is the kind of retirement community that we strive to be and it's a huge responsibility and one that we take very seriously in August of 2011 the village established a 1200 square foot on-site clinic with an open gym in private treatment rooms as a result the village is able to provide outpatient rehabilitation for residents of the village the ccv I legacy fund assist residents who live at the village who run out of funds to pay for all of their care or services project gilder help is offered through sister's care ministry and it provides sliding scale subsidies for clients so that they can live in their own homes and be independent carrying out the healing ministry of jesus christ is not limited to the 14-acre village campus the village continues to branch out into the community by way of our in-home personal care assistance program Hall sisters care at the village and also through our connections community outreach which is a community service program open to the general public of all ages sisters care provides in-home care assistance to elders in the specific areas of home making personal care respite care spiritual care and holistic matters we have a friendship and a relationship and it goes farther i thinks and then as caregiver impatient if you would we do we have we laugh we cry we joke we get serious you know and and she knows that I'm going to be here and that I'm going to make sure that she is taken care of both physically emotionally and spiritually the connections program serves the community by offering low-cost activities and caregiver resources aside from education family caregiver support and nutrition classes connections offers dance exercise creative arts and friendly game competition some classes are offered at for off-site locations in underserved parts of the community in all of our classes bring up the sense of community and people really integrate in a relate well by coming together socially as well as in their learning environments in 2014 connections began offering powerful tools for caregivers a six-week program with on-site respite care designed to deal with stress we went to the doctor and they said he has Alzheimer's so I had no idea how to deal with it I had no idea how to be a caregiver every week we set out a goal for us to help us to make us be able to cope with what we were going to cope with the vision for the village is to continue our tradition of responding to the needs of our residents and the broader community as part of the vision statement for the village at Incarnate Word additional plans call for optimizing and expanding current facilities programs and operations further expanding outreach services promoting a spiritually based continuum of care employee enrichment programs and maximizing fundraising efforts to enhance the organization's ability to provide charitable services we are so glass that we can still have mass in two different chapels every day seven days a week and we also have to adoration chapels on our campus being so close to the University of the Incarnate Word we have a lot of intergenerational programs we have we are a training site for the five School of Pharmacy and for the School of Nursing if you inaudible sorry man
