Mecklenburg House, located in South Hill, VA, is an assisted living community that offers seniors the opportunity to live in comfort surrounded by a caring staff that are well trained in a variety of resident needs. Acquired in 1982, Mecklenburg House has undergone renovation and refurbishing to bring it to the high standards of our clientele. The most recent includes upgraded resident rooms and a new architectural shingled roof.
Our residents enjoy the location of Mecklenburg House which is nestled beside a rural highway with a spacious lawn and backed by the lush forest of Mecklenburg County. Though peaceful and serene, Mecklenburg House is only eight miles from the local hospital and downtown South Hill, VA.
Inside one finds a warm and inviting atmosphere with smiling residents that are always bustling about ready for the next planned activity. The living areas are spacious with large windows welcoming the sunshine. Though Mecklenburg House will furnish resident rooms, many of our residents prefer to personalize their rooms with their own furniture and memorabilia. When possible, this arrangement seems to make individuals feel more at home and it certainly adds a personal touch. Residents may choose private or semi-private rooms all with ensuite bathrooms.
The majority of our residents are active, ambulatory and alert, many enjoy outings every day. Three homemade meals a day are provided and snacks and beverages are available in between meals throughout the day. Residents participate in and enjoy a variety of activities, including ice cream socials, gentle exercise, board games, musical hours, bingo, bird-watching, walks, sing-alongs, special events such as birthday parties, and visits from community groups.
The Mecklenburg House team is on-site to assist the residents 24 hours per day and consists of a Licensed Practical Nurse, trained nurse aides, registered medication aides, activity director, dietary staff, a maintenance director and others. The aides and the nurse assist with activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming, dressing, etc., administering doctor ordered medications, assisting with ambulation and transferring and feeding when necessary. All of the staff are personally interviewed, have a Virginia criminal history background check, and references on file. The staff attends required continuing education through out the year. Mecklenburg House also has a consulting pharmacist and registered dietician to enhance the lives of our residents. Training is provided through in house sources, professional organizations, and corporate meetings.
Mecklenburg House offers a family-like setting where everyone knows everyone and the aides and nurse truly care and love each and every resident. Laughter is always heard echoing through the hallways - no matter if it is between two residents or an aide and resident. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. We invite you to experience our family-like setting and friendly atmosphere to find out why we are “home, in the best sense of the word.“
