Essex House is an assisted living community located in Tappahannock, Virginia and has been meeting the needs of the Northern Neck and Essex County for over 20 years in a small family environment.
Through the main entrance, Essex House welcomes residents and their guests into the large dining room. Resident rooms fan out in either direction from the dining room. There are many sitting areas down each hallway allowing the residents to admire flowers and birds as well as watching the comings and goings of the building.
The small family environment makes Essex House a unique approach to assisted living. All 20 resident rooms are large private rooms with their own bath. Short or long-term stays are available. These rooms are large enough to enjoy private chats in a resident room, or for those who are more socially inclined, the sitting areas down each hall allow for small or large groups to get together and visit. All bath linens and twin bed linens are provided. Residents may bring their own furnishings. Personal belongings and pictures are encouraged to provide a true sense of home and comfort. With a maximum of only 20 residents, everyone knows everyone! Residents and their guests become acquainted with one another and create a caring bond.
The Essex House team is there to assist the residents 24 hours per day and consists of a Licensed Assisted Living Administrator, trained nurse aides, registered medication aides, dietary staff, and a maintenance director. Our aides assist with activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming, dressing, administering doctor ordered medications, assisting with ambulation and transferring and feeding when necessary. All of the staff are personally interviewed, have a Virginia criminal history background check, and references on file. The staff attends required continuing education throughout the year. Essex House also has a consulting pharmacist and nurse. Training is provided through in house sources, professional organizations and corporate meetings.
Three homemade meals a day are provided and snacks and beverages are available in between meals throughout the day. Essex House is very involved with outside volunteers who bring fun and companionship into the lives of our residents. Residents can participate in group activities such as The Red Hat Society meetings, exercise, weekly church meetings and outings. Friends and Family get togethers are held monthly and allow for families and residents to visit and spend time with the administrator.
Essex House provides a caring staff, from the administrator to the nursing aides, all of whom go out of their way to make sure each and every resident is safe, happy and healthy. No matter what the need, we will try to find a way to make it happen at Essex House and provide our residents with superior care and compassion. Caring is what we do best! We invite you to experience it first hand and see how we have been serving seniors in Tappahannock for over 20 years.
