Does Medicaid cover memory care in Indiana?
Indiana’s Aged and Disabled Waiver covers a wide range of services for adults who have been diagnosed with memory loss and meet the clinical criteria for nursing home placement, but who can safely live in a less-intrusive setting with the appropriate supports.
To qualify for enrollment in the A&D Waiver, seniors must be aged 65 and older, or be designated as permanently disabled according to Indiana Medicaid standards and meet the financial criteria for Medicaid enrollment. They must also live in, or be transitioning to, a non-institutional setting such as a memory care facility, or an assisted living community.
What does Medicare cover for memory care?
Medicare covers inpatient hospital care and some of the doctors' fees and other medical items for people with Alzheimer's or dementia who are age 65 or older. Medicare Part D also covers many prescription drugs. Medicare will pay for up to 100 days of skilled nursing home care under limited circumstances. However, custodial long-term nursing home care is not covered. Medicare will pay for hospice care delivered in the home, a nursing facility or an inpatient hospice facility for people with dementia who are determined by a doctor to be near the end of life.
