you i was diagnosed when I was 63 with the Alzheimer's and I had a five hour visit with the doctor the doctor recommended that I come my son and my son-in-law were looking for places they came on their own and they talked with people the wrong though the sitting areas outside they asked him questions about the facility they made three visits like that and they toured a lot of different places but they really liked the metals the best so they brought me they moved me in and then they stayed overnight you know like a little kid to make sure I was going to stay and the next day they called and said well we'll be coming for you I said don't come to get me I'm going to stay here for champagne brunch I'll see you with eyes when you come to town again and so I just moved in and I just loved it all the activities that they have for us I'm involved in bocce i'm on the Bochy team whole idea of them is just to hit the littles get your ball as close to the white ball as possible it is so easy to do so we really enjoy it we have a good time out there and we we encourage everyone to come out there and learn just you know being out there with the people is really great I do the swimming exercises on Tuesdays and Thursdays all I do is go out there to exercise and what's helped us I went to therapy and they recommended that I have water therapy and she made out a whole slip of things that I should do and they're the same exercises that we do in the pool there's nothing that I'm lacking here and you know when you say like oh there's something wrong you can't even say that very long because as soon as you reported it's already taken care of I've written articles to the newspaper and that and I had an article written in a chicken soup for the soul for Alzheimer's and dementia and it was published this year so I have become an advocate I think the worst thing that someone can say to me is I feel sorry for you look at where I live I'm close to my family I have a I'm in a community that I love and it's so nice here you know I don't have to work I don't have to do dishes I don't have to cook you know why are you feeling sorry for me I have such a quality of life my son came to visit one day and he just appeared that he wanted to talk to me and just couldn't find the words so after our visit he went home and he emailed me a letter so I'm going to read you a part of that letter that he wrote to me that says mom I don't want you to worry or be afraid let's enjoy every single day and not think too much about whether you can remember as well as you could in the past I will watch over you alone anything bad happen to you if the time comes when we need to do more for you I will make sure you have everything you need to have a great quality of life I wish I could change things I wish I could take your illness for you I can't all I can do is to be there in two love you you

when did we know it was time to move here well not aged in him for anything to do with it clean the garage a million times my lifetime didn't care if I ever did it once more right that was what Kate cooked how many meals do we go over 65 years of marriage didn't really feel when it is just a cook anymore right well here is someone that was going to cook for us so we're here because we know the metals will take care of us and we like to be independent now we're thinking about our kids very happy that we're here almost everyone said Wow what I like to live here in Napa Valley so it's a wonderful place and again obviously we concur with that thinking too because here we are friendly people the whole staff here is I think the man enjoyable management selection of staff is obviously very selective because everyone here is just hopes were cooperative and willing to serve and we haven't won across really negative service of any kind since we've been here in the dining room they're adorable the opportunity for activity there's everything that you can possibly dream up I love the art classes very cool cases like to paint kate is a bra painter an artist she won't say so when I do nikka she's very modest art it's a hobby but you really loves to and anyhow you have you can fulfill it here I we have a putting group we put twice a week competitively and we have a beautiful putting green there is a wine tasting group that you can participate in shade you choose and the group gets together about once a month and then the tasting occurs just as the oil would if you were at the tasting room at a winery they drink the wine taste the wine discuss it critique it and to get at just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what's available to us we have a lot of music in the valley we have a lot of theaters and the bus trips a lot of them take in some of those shows whatever you like and there was a group outside here and they said do you have here nice and yes I was going into our apartment and then she said well do you like it I said what's not to like they claim for me they cook for me the entertain me and all this was great many wonderful experiences more than we expected no wait and here's cheers and encourage about to anyone looking for this lifestyle it's not Howard you

you well I've lived in Napa for quite a few years in the carneros and I've always visited people in the meadows and then I heard that they were changing things in making larger apartments to move into a place where I could come and go freely and it they made a no available to me immediately I think the positive part of it was that I could do my own apartment and so I was able to design my own home that was a pleasure because I have a lot of art a lot of big art when I left my home so the kids got some of it the rest i gave to museums but i chose the pieces that i wanted to put in here and i couldn't live any place that i didn't feel that i had space and this is paramount in my life to be able to live with her I've met some lovely people and the other part of it is that i'm free here I don't have any responsibilities and that's great The Meadows is is a very serene place for me to live I think that's paramount in my life it's just a great place to live
