The$ 42 million project will be a huge expansion of WesternHome Communities' South Main Campus in Cedar Falls. The new building will become the center of the senior living community providing not only new independent living space and medical recovery suites, but meeting rooms, dinning area, and a performance theater.

groundbreaking today for a major project which has been in the works for almost a decade in Cedar Falls the ground burg with that the groundbreaking for the 42 million dollar project at Western home communities it's going to be the south main campus in Cedar Falls a huge forty two million dollar expansion the new facility will become the center of Senior Living for the community providing not only new independent living space and medical recovery Suites but meeting rooms a dining area and even a Performing Arts Center Katie Lee demos Jessica Hartmann live tonight in the newsroom with more on this news from the western home communities chris hansen those guys have done a great job up there for sure that's right Ron one goal of the project is to bridge a gap between Western home liver people who live there excuse me and the Cedar Valley community current residents want to be more involved in the community but say that desire is outgrowing the facilities packed into a crowded dining hall residents listen to the popular community choir the 43 member choir tolerates the makeshift performance area but it's too small to accommodate all of the audience at once we have to meet in the dining room turn the chairs around take the chairs down the lack of meeting space has also limited some seniors ability to get involved with younger generations these buildings aren't aren't big enough to you know really hold all the people and then if we want to give lessons and that type of stuff you know we're stuck into a little exercise room the field I'm standing in now will soon house a new building that will not only fill the needs of residents but will also invite in the Cedar Valley community we're hoping to involve a lot more of the mentors and the young kids in various activities that might be in the new building and with more than and fifty seats in the new performance space the choir will have room for not only all the people who already come to see them we will definitely have room for the outside community to our friends and neighbors the choir director told me she plans to add dancing and acting into the performance thanks to the new extra space they will be getting sounds like a show worth checking out we've got you covered live in the newsroom Jessica Hartman KWWL news Jessica thanks very much and by the way Jessica says the entire project should be complete at the west gnome communities in the fall of next year in Cedar Falls
