Designed by Robert Hoover of HBLA, Inc. Portsmouth, New Hampshire specifically for a memory impaired population, the Memory Services at Kaplan Estates showcase two remarkable therapeutic gardens. These colorful gardens were created on the premise that nature is a therapeutic and restorative medium. Enclosed for safety, the gardens allow residents to enjoy gardening activities as well as savor the spectacular beauty of the outdoors.

Harriett and Ralph Kaplan Estates is certified to implement the highly acclaimed “Music & Memory” program. This program has had tremendous success in reaching individuals with dementia where other methods have failed. Personalized music selections are compiled and placed on iPods; these musical favorites tap deep memories not lost to dementia. Even for persons with severe dementia, music can facilitate deep emotional recall.

The assisted living apartments are designed especially for residents with Alzheimer’s and other dementias to meet the specialized needs of those with memory loss and cognitive impairment. Our highly trained staff works with each resident to minimize limitations while maintaining individuality, dignity and overall peace of mind.

Apartments

Two 16-apartment residences, designed in consultation with the Alzheimer’s Association. Scenic views, private baths with shower seat and grab bars, individual heat and air conditioning controls, cable TV and phone hookup. All apartments come equipped with emergency response systems. 

Amenities

Residential-style country kitchen, 3-season porches, activity room, arts and crafts space, relaxation room and a therapeutic garden designed specifically for those with memory impairments. Within our assisted living community, the residence features a fireplace room, community room, coffee shop, garden kitchen, beauty salon, library, and outdoor patio.

Services

Three meals per day, weekly housekeeping, linen and laundry service. Daily assistance with activities such as bathing, dressing, medication management and dietary needs are incorporated into each resident’s individualized care plan.

Activities

We offer a wide range of programs staffed by dedicated professionals who are trained in dementia care. Our nurses and social workers offer continuous assessment and evaluation using the Habilitation approach which allows residents to be active throughout the day.

Lectures, concerts, arts and crafts, games, music programs, exercise classes, gardening, holiday celebrations, and restaurant outings on our community van.
