the spirit of silver maples to me is youth it's a joyous community with all the supports you need and all the possibilities you can imagine all of our residents have their own home they have their own privacy they have their own individuality but they live in a neighborhood you want 17 and a half acres there is about a hundred and sixty total residents that lived here and it's very well cared for and the people that run I care so much I should have moved out of the condo five years before I did they've been alone all that time after my wife died and I want to be with people we have a lot of people that tell us when I walked in the front door I just knew it was right amazing people are attracted to silver maples but I think that the community at silver maples attracts amazing people phd's of doctors and former ambassadors I was a diplomat in American Foreign Service I was a theological educator I'd ask its person in the table what were you doing and I learned a little bit about that and a little bit about me it's an atmosphere that you just walk in and everybody talks to you so many activities you can do as much or as little as you want I've joined the art committee I have joined the book club I like the exercise program there are so many things going on here that you sometimes have a hard time deciding what which of these things am I going to go to there are no old people here and biologically that certainly doesn't make sense but in terms of the attitudes and the interests of the people I think it's very true the activities that are planned are planned around the interests of our residents we really love exploring big cities villages restaurants museums music all those sort of outings well happy hour is always good and the food of course I would want to skip that the food is tremendous I've gained seven pounds we serve three different dining rooms at dinner each night almost all of our cooking is scratch cooking all of the soups are homemade very popular we have a raised bed garden outside that the residents plant and we actually grow a lot of our own herbs and vegetables and I bring guests here particularly at dinner time because I want them to see the kind of food we're getting and the choices they have on the menu our dining is considered fine dining we bring a lot of very creative dishes and entrees to our residents you have to remember that these are very well-traveled individuals they've been all over the world and they enjoy cuisines of the world what's nice is that the staff and residents here seem to be as one and we have a say about what's happening the staff is very helpful very friendly very dedicated people are so warm and friendly I think probably the whole place gets their tone from from the staff it's the staff that makes the difference most of our waitstaff are high school or early college age and the residents just love the energy that these young adults bring each and every day I wrote to my sister we just moved up neatest place they change lightbulbs somebody moves the lawn somebody does the snow not my problem I can leave here anytime I want not worry about will the basement flood while I'm gone lock the door leave come back everything is the same there was time for us to move to a place where there's less responsibility and you feel very well looked after here my family is very happy that I'm someplace like this we have residents that are signed to every new resident they make sure that they have people so join them for dinner and they understand how to engage in all the activities that are provided here one of the best things is the warmth and friendliness the sociability the feeling of belonging comes really rather quickly I feel sorry for friends and other people who have gone other places I do I really do and I don't say anything that I think Oh Tony you knew my family is happy with me here because they don't have to worry about me if I need something I can call downstairs and of course another advantage too is that healthcare is so close by we can walk to the doctor's office or walk to the hospital so it's all very convenient I think one of the big advantages that silver maples offers is just our location within the community of Chelsea the access to Ann Arbor is also very easy silver maples really exceeded my expectations most people say it's the best decision I ever made silver maples makes me feel like I belong it's full it's full of them laughter a lot of laughter what surprised me was the way strangers of yesterday became friends of today so the Maples is our home
