It is the belief and operating philosophy of The Keene Valley Neighborhood House that quality and compassionate care is directly related to the quality of direct care staff. To this end, The Neighborhood House primarily utilizes the concept of Universal Care Aides (UCA’s). Most assisted living facilities break job roles down to very distinct positions such as a bath person, a house keeper, a personal care aide, serving staff, etc. At The Neighborhood House, we do not view our residents as bits of tasks but rather we strive to see them as whole persons in where they are more than the sum of their needs. Our UCA’s function across a wide range of resident needs in order to see as much of the whole person as possible. We believe it is only then that individuals are treated as persons not tasks.
It is hard work and much is expected of our UCA’s. To ensure that we as an organization create an environment where quality individuals fill the UCA roles we pay a socially responsible wage. In fact, we likely pay the highest or just about the highest in the state. Facility – The Keene Valley Neighborhood House represents over 100 years of caring for our friends and neighbors in the North Country. From nursing services in 1910, to a hospital in 1956, to an adult care facility in 1979, and finally to an assisted living facility in 2008.
Exercise – The Neighborhood House boasts and exercise room where supported as well as individual stretching and balance programs maintain individual independence and mobility. The room is also host to yoga classes, massage therapy, general wellness classes.
Activities – A modern and well equipped activity room serves as the focus of a variety of activities including bingo, arts & crafts, games, reading groups, and private family dinner parties.
