caring for our seniors is perhaps the greatest responsibility we have those who walk before us have given so much it made possible to life we all enjoy and we all come from different families different lifestyles and everything we all have to deal with this the aging process he lived in an apartment downtown and as the disease progressed it got to the point where he couldn't take care of himself anymore and it was just one day it was like flipping a switch one day we realized hey we need to either have somebody come in here or we need to bring him somewhere and there comes a time in a caregivers life that you realize it is now beyond you and in fairness as I said before in fairness to myself and to my mother she needed additional care and I couldn't give her that planning for different types of housing and care over the years as you has life progresses and you don't want to plop someone down you want to find a living and social environment that's really fruitful they continue to say we don't want to be a burden I know you always hear that and we were looking for someplace where they would feel a certain matter independence yet at the same time we would be around if they needed more immediate family type help everybody has different stories to tell and it's helpful sometimes to hear what other people have been through because you say oh my gosh I'm normal this is hard I am the caregiver the watcher of the guide I walked on the hall with you by my side a smile a laugh a hug or embrace I watched the worry and fall away from your face the decision for me was easy at wesley's reputation preceded itself and I knew that's where I wanted her to be and I thank God to this day that that's where i was able to place her it's a very caring community I find that they're a very warm group of people and I that covers a lot a lot of people and that's the people that make make this place they loved her and they took such good care of her I never walked in that she wasn't clean she wasn't dressed her room was in order but it was what I saw with the staff who would come over and they kiss her on the cheek give her a hug you know Oh Genevieve how are here today and she would respond with this huge smile I'm good I'm good how are you what all the spoils down to is the staff that's what that's where everything really happens and I've seen very positive and very caring interactions sometimes almost like a family is when I come in here I never think that anybody's having a bad day the experience here is so positive that you don't want to go anywhere else stay within this system within this actually campus if you can it's beautiful grounds great care so we stay stayed here and I never really had to consider any place those I can come here live relatively independently in woodland and when the time comes then I can move to skilled care and I think more of us should be thinking about our futures as well as our loved ones futures and that's why supporting an institution or a facility such as Wesley to me is so important at all levels were providing quality care and whether it's in an independent living apartment whether it's in assisting living whether it's in our evergreen Adult Day Services program or whether it's in skilled nursing Leslie health care so the people that have the most rewarding experience on our campus are those folks that are willing to say yes I'm getting older and I'm going to make the best of it you
