you're watching explore Tulsa listen to their story is sitting down in the dining room and talking the folks who are 1885 I've never had grandparents so it was a very exciting for me to be around listen to their stories I can listen to their stories all day long [Music] as a young parent I needed to be home every night and the company I was working for originally right out of college offer an awful lot of travel I answered had for a housekeeping director in a nursing home and my only criteria was to be home every night and I went into this nursing home I thought oh my goodness I'm home this is Ronnie to stay I was working for contract Therapy company and that brought me to this facility I was immediately impressed at the difference I saw here and compared to other places that I had been often in this industry and a lot of industries for that matter that they're so-called experts people like myself who think we're experts in what they want meaning the older folks and I the reality of it as this community was smart enough to go out get some focus groups interview who those people and it instead of having a bunch of 30-something saying well we know what the old people want we're going to build it for them and that's exactly what they did in the early 80s they built the small nursing Santa 40 bed Nursing Center and 62 apartments when I came here naturally the community at that time was called Tulsa Jewish retirement health care center it was not just a place for Jewish people to retire it was a place where people of all faiths all backgrounds fell often my whole goal is to make sure people have a good quality of life they're able to stay active independent aging-in-place for as long as possible and fortunately three years ago we were able to obtain our own our very own indoor heated pool saltwater pool and that's been a huge addition to what I do as a wellness director in terms of being able to provide on a daily basis for the better need to the people that live here and work here we were very fortunate to be able to acquire a continuum of care license there's only one of eleven in Oklahoma and we're one of those 11 which is really nice which allows our clients to use the term age in place so you can move into an apartment that's active independent senior and if you do need assisted living services for whatever reason whether it a temporary or long term you get them in a very same apartment they don't have to move to another building another location and make that transition they just take on the services of assisted living for as long as they need them it could be permanently or short-term but they don't have to make that extra loop most of the clients that we serve are coming out of a home that they've lived in for 20-plus years and they really don't want to do it again so they're making that downsize move they're selling a large home to move into an apartment setting or one of our villas and they're hoping that that's the last time they have to do that and I'm very proud that we were able to provide that [Music] but one of the only retirement centers in the country that have a solar power project on campus there are a lot of solar projects around the country that are very few in retirement housing we added the town center which has been a huge addition to this community because that axe is the social gathering place for the people that live here people who work here people that visit the town center has given us an added opportunity to program many more things to our residents and people that visit us in the way of health and fitness programs are some music it's not about bingo and rock and tears you know we have the Olly Institute that comes out here and provides passes for our seniors they can be accredited or they could be non accredited that classes on balance macular degeneration some really interesting things [Music] [Applause] we really are a large enough community to give everybody what they need most of what they want but I think we're small enough to make people feel more like at home so our goal is really to create a campus that I want to live on if I would be happy to move into and retire to people here here have a very close relationship with one another look after the interests of one another not just for our team members looking after the interests of our residents but residents looking after one another I think that's very special [Music]
