Menno Haven is a non-profit Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) provider with over a half-century of care and service to the residents of the Cumberland Valley. Based in historic Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Menno Haven operates two fully integrated communities featuring a wide range of independent living options. Governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and a commitment to Christian Principles, Menno Haven is passionate about serving each individual resident’s needs.

[Music] meda Haven is a mission-driven organization it's an organization that truly touches the lives of people [Music] many Haven was founded with a great mission by a group of people that had a heart to provide a haven for whoever we served and I believe that past has certainly been the driver behind mental Haven success the organization would not be what it is today without our founders and without their commitment to saying here's a mission that we feel is worth following and we're going to set this organization on a very stable foundation the main reason for opening this place was to supply a place for people with children who their parents were older and not a good place to stay to be taking care of them it's always been they've been taught always taken good care of their the Mennonite Church had an old people's home over native salad Maryland Lakota and it got fooled in Norman Martin which was one of the founders couldn't get his aunt in there said well we'll start one ourselves well they'll be day I don't remember if we had to count how many people but I remember the parking lot selling fool they were coming for I beat was four hours at least four hours did they just company I don't know if they ever counted how many people were there but it was a beautiful day as far as residents coming in I think they came in much faster than the board would have thought they were going to come within four months it was filled up and they had a backlog and with I think it was two years they had 44 more beds made [Music] when we first started it was like a family not kind of a sad if you do everybody knew what but their life consistent there's only two links and it was just like one family and that was really neat and of course that's one of the younger ones then now I'm very one of the older ones [Laughter] the first residents being introduced to men a Haven was largely I think through family members through the church and through the press the local newspaper followed what was happening here to describe the the building program that been a haven and its growth was surprising to everybody I think have been at minnow Haven for thirty four and a half years actually three quarters of a year yes it's been that my entire career I was very very young when I came I can remember driving down Scotland Avenue and looking up and seeing this nursing home and thinking that was the most beautiful nursing center I had ever seen in my entire life and would I not be blessed to work their [Music] mental havens reputation in the community has always been magnificent because of the team members who provided excellent care we have been you know very well respected in the community and we continue to strive to earn each day we need to earn that reputation because you can't just sit on that reputation you have to earn it every single day it just seems like everything rolled in place just one thing rolled in and after another things are happening things are changing to something different the what comes to my mind is anticipation I saw how many Haven was a really a caring community I mean just really impressively so I said well there's no harm in looking it's ten years before we want to make the move anyway but we get to certainly go take a look we took a look I stepped inside and looked around nice place looked at the bedrooms you know the whole setup suited us very nicely and so I said well we could try to sell the house it's bad time to sell I'm gonna sell week later we had an offer before we had the sign up I think God had it had in mind for us to come here [Music] the current isn't your market is is different than it has been and in the RIT most recent past one of the things I talk to our team members about is that we are moving from the idea of the greatest generation to the baby boomer I think today where we're seeing we're seeing changing expectations from the residents that are coming today and I think Meno Haven has always been up to the challenge of providing security safety dignity to the generation that we serve and I don't think it'll be any different for us in the future I think we'll continue to meet that challenge [Music] the next 10 years will be a great time of growth not just for me no even but for our senior living industry at large the simple demographics of America the baby boomer generation is the largest generation our nation has ever seen and they're retiring at a clip of almost 10,000 per day and that provides a real challenge to organizations like us to make sure we're ready to serve those new constituents and we do that in many ways we prepare for them here at our community with new services new lines new cottages new apartments I think another area of opportunity for meadow haven is to serve those seniors in their homes before they choose to make meadow Haven their new home we do that through Meadow Haven at home and in home care service where we help folks with their daily activities and help them age in place even before they choose to come live with us you know I really feel like we have a lot of exciting things going on at meadow Haven right now but the thing that I'm really excited about is for future residents of our of our health care centers that they will be able to live in a beautiful household model where they'll have all private rooms they will their privacy will be respected they will have opportunities for enrichment within their households but yet they will also be able to go out into our in our beautiful great rooms and chapels it'll be like going to town so it's gonna be a whole different environment from from what we currently have Menno Haven in 20 years will look different than it does today buildings may be different routes may be different services and amenities may look different but my heart and I believe the heart of our board would be that our mission never changes take care of the people that's the thing you can grow and not be a good service give good service than you grow we are here to serve that we may be serving new and different people but we're still serving so mental havens future to me is the same as the past because we've always been so well respected and we've done it so well and just we just need to continue to serve come and have fun have fun our residents have had lives entire careers and families and experiences you know we only get this small little snapshot on what someone moves here to become a part of our family here at Meadow haman and if we don't lose sight of coming and having fun and and making those relationships it will it's the most rewarding job that you can have to know that you are coming in you're impacting somebody's life and you're allowing them to impact your life as well so have fun you're never too old to have fun it's been a miracle that's that's a short sentence it's it's been a it's been a miracle more than anyone could
