[Music] and so the fact that there was a covenant based retirement community just four miles from our house it was kind of a no-brainer that we would get comfortable and think about this place and we've been there and we're very happy with our decision we wanted a church base a facility one that could meet the spiritual needs that we might have we do go to one outside church here but we wanted the faith-based here the to be here and to be a part of this you know a lot of times you slow down and you stop doing things and here there's the opportunity to do as much or as little as you want in whatever area you want I mean you can go to lectures or classes or concerts or whatever and there's something here that you can find to interest you if you want it faith is critical to all that being done and and forms a basis of the kind of community of which we wanted to be a part so I think that was attractive to us as we looked at homestead and we saw a lifestyle and the activities that would be very appropriate for us as a couple [Music] so covenant retirement communities really was birthed out of a vision from the evangelical covenant church in 1886 and they opened the home of mercy and it was in the city in the city of Chicago covenant retirement communities today has grown to the 15 communities that it is and one of the commitments that was made many many years ago is that covenant retirement communities would have a retirement community in every Conference of the evangelical covenant church Christian faith not only defines who we are and how we treat people but it also inspires us to welcome and serve people of all faiths and beliefs and so as individuals move in and they look at the financial security of that individual community well that's extremely important they also have the assurance that they have a backup from the larger organization in the event of access to funds to do new development or in the event that that community would be challenged financially they know that their investment in covenant retirement communities is safe so in 2008 we opened covenant care at home they serve both the residents in our community and senior adults who live in the community the surrounding community that are not necessarily residents of our retirement communities that home health agency has really given us an opportunity to allow seniors to be served through Christian love and Christian caregivers and in the same spirit that we operate our retirement communities but it gives us access to a much broader reach of senior adults and their families so the focus of inspired to serve for covenant retirement communities in a nutshell is to create joy and peace of mind for the residents and their families what that really means is that the resident should experience joy no matter what they're going through as they age there's a lot of great fellowship here and there's a lot of things to do we have the billiard tables down below and we play a lot of billiards we have the fitness center I have no excuse not to exercise so I've been taking advantage of that we read to children that come here that preschool class from across the street come and visit us once a month and we read to them and they have other activities and we participate in a lot of things that there's so much going on here I think the staff is very pleasant respectful helpful and I know I really appreciate it's a very friendly place people overall are just kind and good and helpful and I think it's very good the culture here it's a family it's a family environment its employees helping out the residents and the residents helping out the employees it's a giant family everyone working together for the common goal to create joy and peace of mind I think what inspires me are the residents here the residents are just a joy and an honor to be able to be around and I think they're the reason that I come to work to be around them I think one of the benefits of being a covenant retirement community residents and one of the assurances is that we can't predict how long I'll live or how long my money will last and so one of the things and one of the benefits of being part of covenant retirement communities is that if through no fault of my own I have been a good steward of my money and I outlive the resources that I came in with covenant retirement communities has a benevolent care fund and that will help to support that individuals opportunity to stay in their community with their friends with the lifestyle that they have become accustomed to and I think that again really contributes to creating joy and peace of mind for residents and their families [Music] you

[Music] you believe in the power of Christian community is really a summary statement of our full mission I have watched people who have come into our organization either as a resident or as a staff member who have not had an acid-based journey and because of their experience they've turned their lives over to Christ and that's the beauty of being a ministry of the evangelical covenant church I felt that we really grew to believe that this was the best move we could make at the time I felt like I belong right in the very beginning I knew people before I moved in here because of living in the area and the church here but I've made many new friends we had a tragedy in our family and we had an awful lot of love and support and caring from people here phone calls and cars and flowers and many things like that people really reached out people really appreciated loving caring spirit that's on the campus throughout staff and even other residents as they get to experience life that a covenant retirement community overwhelmingly people embrace that is really what makes a special and unique hospitality individuality congeniality and spirituality are really the core pieces of what build christian community and those are the areas where we put our focus covenant retirement Kunis is based upon the Christian principles and the fact that we're here not only living for ourselves but we're here living to help others we studying faith-based books interesting the background of people and how they contribute I found that a growing experience living here we're not living in the past but we're just actively improving our lives and their walk with God somebody might say what did your kids think about you coming here and I say I didn't ask them but they were very supportive of my coming here I feel coming here has been a gift to our four children they do not have to worry about us they're happy that we're here and that's a big bonus tres people come here to live age is completely irrelevant in looking back on life and seeing where God's direction was evidence maybe at the time I didn't see a great vision but now having come here I can look back that God hand was in it and it was the right thing for us it's about watching whether residents or staff blossom into something that they never thought was possible it's about the people that's why I love what I do you
