St. Mark's Terrace offers affordable housing for senior citizens in two locations in Yates County, New York.
It was the vision and mission of the Rector and Vestry of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Penn Yan, New York to establish decent, safe housing for low income seniors.
In 1972, St. Mark's Terrace opened a “high rise“ building with over 100 apartments in a convenient location in the center of the Village of Penn Yan. The opportunity to be housed near amenities such as grocery stores, banks, churches, public library, post office, pharmacies, restaurants and shopping district attracts many seniors who may no longer desire to drive.
Individuals who are 62 years of age or older and are able to manage living in an independent setting are welcome to apply. Rental subsidy may be available for those who qualify. The buildings follow regulations established by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
St. Mark's, Dundee opened with a 39 unit two story building in 1994. It is located on the edge of the Village of Dundee and is approximately one-half mile from the shopping district, where amenities such as grocery store, public library, bank, post office, restaurant and pharmacy are available. Convenient on-site delivery by the grocery store and pharmacy may be arranged by residents.
St. Mark's Terrace offers an Enriched Housing Program in Penn Yan. This is a non-medical program certified by the New York state Department of Health; it is offered to tenants who are age 62 and older who are living independently but need some assistance with daily living needs. Enriched Housing is a long-term program; it is not meant for post hospital, short term rehabilitation or crisis intervention. We hope that participants will remain with us until they are ready for a higher level of care.
A Case Manager is available to address concerns of the participants who are part of the program. Personal Care Aides are on the premises seven days a week providing assistance as needed.
A social and physician assessment to determine strengths and needs is part of the application process. Individuals who need 24 hour medical or nursing care are not eligible.
Individuals pay a monthly fee for the program, plus the rent for their apartment. Those who qualify may apply for supplemental security income.
