welcome to leisure village a hundred seventeen bed skilled nursing community that community part is an important distinction I want to show you around but I think I hear a party it's Elmer Harmons hundredth birthday and his family and friends here at leisure village are celebrated secret to a long life taking care of yourself no bad habits add to criollos a big celebration like a hundredth birthday is important to everyone at leisure village will let him continue celebrating and we'll move on down the hall Dwayne Hills the administrator he says his chief job is to be a good listener I think it's a calling it's just something I love to do just love to help help that older population he spends the majority of his day in the hallways talking to residents answering questions solving problems I love it there's a memory care wing at leisure village we call it apple tree lane Herman Avery and his wife live there the walls in apple tree lane are decorated with brightly colored paintings we believe there's therapy in these murals the Averys attend regular therapy sessions with jackie moore it's word and phrase recognition today every dog has is good not far away whiny to see more is doing little physical therapy Donna berryhill's the therapist yeah well now she's just showing off one eat is an interesting illustration of how the continuum of care works here gold medallion has three facilities on one large campus when Betty's health necessitated an increased level of care she moved not across town across the parking lot they instantly have those relationships already established and they see familiar staff members Diane hamburg's family has owned and operated gold medallion senior housing and health care from the beginning moving from home for the first time can be a frightening proposition very much like the first day of school you're apprehensive you're scared you have fears of will I fit in is this going to be the right place for me they want to be know that they can trust the place that they're coming to DJ Debbie Johnson's the Admissions Director and often the first person family members and prospective residents meet main thing is you sit and you listen because everybody has a story she's the second person who's mentioned listening as a primary aspect of her job that listening has led to something called resident centered care care most people when you talk about long-term care independent living or assisted living they'll think care means more treatment and it doesn't it's just like caring for your children or caring for your garden it's helping it to grow leisure village is not a one-size-fits-all facility we fit our decisions around their decisions when do you want to get up mealtimes are flexible with restaurant style dining get a snack if you want one everything in terms of their medical needs their social needs and what makes them happy and that digs is the director of nursing making sure her staff here at the help desk and elsewhere are caring for the whole person not all therapists at leisure village walk on two legs this is Sparky his is a special kind of treatment that's it right there he just sits he's usually hanging out in DJ's office until someone calls for a little Sparky time it's fart visiting anybody I'd like to have him down in my room for 15-20 minutes there are other activities bingo arts and crafts even popcorn in the living room reading group is working through Dolly Parton's autobiography jano is a morning person activities to nurture the whole person the highest level of care provided in a community setting we're like a big family so come by and see us we'd love to show you a better life is waiting for you at leisure village
