Avamere at Chestnut Lane is a nationally renowned senior living community serving deaf, deafblind, and hard-of-hearing residents and their families — conveniently located in Gresham, Oregon, just minutes from Portland. With an immersive American Sign Language (ASL) environment, Avamere at Chestnut Lane is unique and prepared to enrich the lives of our residents in ways that no other senior living community can.

Through embracing deaf culture, we have built a senior living community that enriches our residents’ life experiences . Avamere at Chestnut Lane is proud to be only one of two personal care communities in the United States that exclusively accommodates the needs of deaf, deafblind, and hard-of-hearing seniors. In fact, many of our staff exclusively communicate through ASL.

We learn resident personalities before a resident moves into their Avamere home, and our staff meets with their family to learn about their loved one’s life history, daily routines, likes, and dislikes.

Our associates who provide and assist with resident healthcare needs are fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). Avamere at Chestnut Lane has built close, warm relationships with a local network of doctors, hospitals, clinics, and rehabilitation centers in our area. Our residents enjoy the comfort of working with a diverse range of medical professionals who know the needs of Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard-of-Hearing patients and understand their unique culture.
