Willamette View

Portland, OR - Assisted Living, Nursing Home, Independent Living, CCRC

As the first Life Plan Community (also known as a Continuing Care Retirement Community) in the Portland metro area, Willamette View has a long and innovative history of setting the standard in Northwest senior living. We’re an independent, not-for-profit organization with a solid financial foundation and a 64-year track record as a resident-driven community.

People are drawn to Willamette View for the waterfront setting and the physical elements that make up our campus. Yet once they get here, they find something even more appealing: a sense of connection they can feel throughout our community. It is our people and the joyful, purposeful vibe they create together that are our greatest assets.

But there’s even more to life at Willamette View. You’ll have your choice of countless intellectual and physical offerings, emotional resources and gastronomical delights. How you design your daily routine will be up to you, your tastes and your needs. Around you, the community provides a larger context and culture – one that can elevate an individual experience into an opportunity for connection and engagement.

At Willamette View, wellness has no limits. Our commitment to helping you engage your mind, body and spirit runs deep and wide, through our community and through everything we do. Our culture of wellness is built on the knowledge that staying physically active and socially engaged leads to better health. That explains why our swimming pool is always bustling and our volunteer hours are off the charts.

But being truly well isn’t just about us. It’s about how we connect with friends and lift up the people who need our support. When you find a community that shares those ideals, aging expands from a solo effort to a journey among peers. Your relationships are richer, and so is your life.

Supported living is living well – simple as that. Of course we offer best-in-class long-term nursing care for residents who need it. But support takes many forms, like the kind of uplift that comes from a walk in our Harmony Garden, or from enjoying a glass of wine among friends.

It can mean an individualized workout at the Fitness Center, help with the grocery shopping or around-the-clock assistance after a hospital stay. And it’s available at Willamette View.

We are an industry leader recognized for our top-flight nursing professionals, high staffing levels, low employee turnover and expertise in the full range of skilled and personal care. Willamette View is a fully licensed Life Plan Community (also known as a continuing care retirement community), with national accreditation from CARF International.

The options for Supported Living at Willamette View include various levels of care available through Willamette View In-Home Care, as well as the range of living environments and services to be found on-site in our Supported Care settings.

Life at Willamette View is all about options. In our Assisted Living and Residential Care settings, we provide personalized services and just the right amount of health oversight to allow you to live as independently as possible. We encourage you to explore the benefits and amenities available throughout our 27-acre campus, knowing that your “home base” at Willamette View is a supportive living environment that offers multiple levels of personal and nursing care.

moving from a home to a retirement community initially seems like a very scary thing you have to first of all identify with the fact that you are aging and the attitude is I'm not ready and my response that I've developed since being here and seeing what it means to be ready is that when you're ready it's too late we think the best gift you can give your children is to provide for yourself so that they don't have to worry about it they don't have you you've made the decisions that you want while you're still able to to make them I was 63 when I moved in and it wasn't too soon it feels just right I'm glad I didn't wait until I was 75 I was ready to downsize and I didn't even know it that I was ready to not spend so much time cooking and puttering around my house and and driving my car it was time to make our life simpler and more enjoyable and we now live in a one-bedroom apartment but work very comfortable we take longer walks more walks activities in balance classes line dancing folk dancing I spend most of my time outside my unit one of the the biggest and most wonderful thing is getting to the gym in the morning we spend much more time doing things at Willamette View we don't even have to leave the premises everything is here I didn't mind cooking but now that I live here I appreciate that food and we're vegetarian and when we came to visit here they had a salad bar nice fresh produce good fruit and salad the dining room is certainly a social experience it is it is the the hub of Willamette whew it's it's where you meet your wonderful neighbors and share share a meal this is a retirement place for active people active in their minds and some in their bodies but people who are with it they're physicists and social workers and teachers and highly highly educated people it it is such a pleasure to be constantly engaged intellectually one of the things that sets willamette view apart from the competition that we saw anyway is that the residents themselves have formed something like 140 is what I've heard of what we call committees and those groups get the participation of other people who are interested in whatever that particular topic is but now we have hundreds of friends here I think we one sat down and we started counting people that we know and it must be over a hundred moving to Willamette few one of the pleasures is getting up in the morning and walking out into the hallway and before 8 o'clock in the morning you will have had wonderful conversations with 10 or 15 people just in the hallway it is a wonderful wonderful cheerful way to start your day everyone is so friendly people say I don't know what the statistics are that when you move into a Lam it view its going you're likely to add 10 years onto your life and I don't know if that's true or not but if socialization and talking to people and laughing and having a good time every day with others if that has anything to do with the aging process I suspect you know we will live a bit longer by being at a place where we're so happy it can't hurt
