We encourage you to spend time at several residences; observe the interactions between staff and residents, share a meal, speak to community members and caregivers. Most importantly, ask yourself, “Does this community offer person centered care? Is the facility, the program, designed to meet the needs of the people who live there or is the focus on meeting the needs of the facility owner/administration?” At Brereton Manor, we understand that our residents have the right to determine how their needs are met and to have their loved ones and family members involved in that determination.
The staff at Brereton Manor understands the decisions ahead will not be easy. The owner, Bill Boyd, once faced the same dilemma when he was looking at retirement communities for his own parents. Each option seemed to have serious drawbacks so he set a goal to redefine the standard operating procedure of elder care. Bill wanted his parents to feel they were living in their own home while they received the care they needed to be assisted with the tasks of daily living. Instead of a large campus with sprawling hallways and a hotel like environment that he found at most retirement communities; Brereton Manor has a quiet living room, a comfortable TV room, a community dining room and a kitchen that looks similar to his parent’s kitchen. In other words Brereton Manor feels like home. There are 25 bedrooms scattered throughout so that no resident of Brereton is far from any common area.
We are proud to be a premier elder care facility and to guarantee the very best personal and medical attention for your loved ones. We are fully staffed with licensed practical nurses as well as professionally trained caregivers. A staff physician and registered nurse are always on call and we work with contracted agencies to bring the very best medical care – occupational and physical therapy, dermatology, podiatry and, when needed, hospice – to our residents here at their home. We encourage those who live with us to maintain their independence through a variety of social activities and interactions with other residents.
