what I've always wanted to do is to build my own alternative crazy partnership and the opportunity to really interact with residents as colleagues people think of age as disability and illness and rather than an opportunity to really take advantage of all that you've learned and that you have a little more time in different ways than you did when you were in the thick of all of that raising children having jobs it's you can barely take a breath people come from all kinds of walks of life they've had all kinds of experiences all different levels of income and assets we're a very progressive community we have an open door and that really means something we are very welcoming to LGBTQ we have lots of folks from different religious backgrounds different family situations the respect that each resident has for the other person's life story is profound when you've chosen this sort of neighborhood in this this community you're really investing in a lifetime partnership that Roseville is going to be there for them for the rest of their life to always have the services here that they need to take care of them no matter what happens to their finances later in life to walk down the road with them as partners no matter what happens to their family or their health or their finances we really have decided that that long-term commitment is meaningful we're a not-for-profit and so any resident that moves into Rose Villa if they should outlive their financial resources our foundation will take care of all their bills over the past fifty five years people have thrown a little into the pot just to be sure that if their neighbors need it it's there for them for me this is the best opportunity I've ever had to fully engage my own self in every aspect of community and be there for it really show up

we're community that's been here for 50 years and we've been independent the entire time we're right above the Willamette River and we offer all kinds of fun things in a great neighborhood for folks to live in and I lived at Rose Villa about 14 years 10 years about a year and a half what's interesting to me and the experiences that I've had and senior living its how often people feel that downsizing or moving to a community is somehow diminishing of their independence and what's really true is that they're making sure they stay independent by making the choices they want to make and doing the research and making sure they're really want to be ahead of the game I don't understand why people want to stay and be independent in their homes you can be so independent living in a facility like this you can be as independent as you want to be I think it's very important for people to move into Rose Villa while they're still healthy what I enjoy about Rose Villa is that I'm surrounded by all sorts of people who are very forward-thinking they're planning ahead they care about their environment and they think a community is important it's not about living in your house by yourself and being alone it's moving to a supportive environment well I always felt since I'm a single person that it would be wise for me to be able to take care of myself as I advanced in years and the healthcare system here are so excellent we have full-time nurses on staff 24 hours a day there are so many fine people they are just friendly down-to-earth and they integrate like a family unit we're on 22 acres just above the Willamette River lots of green space there are a lot of trees here people come with their pets we wanted to be somewhere where our cat could be with us we knew eventually we would have a little dog and this has a nice little yard off the side and we have a little gate so we can allow the doggie to get out I didn't want to move into a high-rise I don't want to live in a place where I feel like I'm walking down a hotel hall and go into a room we wanted to be in one level for my wife's sake because of her hip I mean we've we've still got front door back door sort of our own unit nobody upstairs nobody downstairs no big hallways the thing I like is no matter where you go you have to go outside to get there you are not always confined in doors we have all kinds of sizes from very small for people who are more economy minded to 3-bedroom 2bath the other thing that we like to do is customize your home so when people move in we completely renovate the interior based on your desires we have our own move in and a design coordinator she'll work with you from the beginning to the end we have a terrific chef and he offers wonderful restaurant style meals you can come in and order whatever you want we feature seasonal produce and we grow a lot of our own vegetables right here on site we're very happy to have our own community garden it's about a two acre garden and there's a ton of gardeners down there growing all kinds of things I've never seen so many versions of raspberries I'll tell you that and what's wonderful about that is that all the excess produce if you've grown more than you can eat you contribute it to a weekly produce table so we have our very own farmers market right here at Rose Villa right now taking calligraphy I've taken flower arranging classes and span these classes and other kind of stuff we have all sorts of continuing education opportunities including Tai Chi and yoga and lots of things for your body as well as your mind in addition to that we have our own resale store called the treasure house it's run entirely by residents and it supports a lot of activities on our campus we have a classroom we have a game room with pool tables and all those sorts of things weight room fitness center and of a library we have a business center we have a huge workshop it's got woodworking tools and all sorts of things and a core group of about 10 guys that goes down there and builds all kinds of things when we certainly are not people who sit around in our rocking chairs we don't have time for that the transportation about getting from here to there you just go out your front door and walk to it one of the strengths I feel about Rose Villa is that we're really just like real life best decision we ever made other than deciding to get married and having kids absolutely that was a good one but the next best one wasn't moving here you
