Walnut Village is a magnificent assisted living community in Yankton, South Dakota. It is within fetching Yankton County which is part of the Mount Rushmore State.
It is our goal that this facility be the finest senior resident facility in the area. Walnut Village is located within the “Yankton High School Historic District”. The developers commissioned this project with the vision of developing a dynamic community service facility utilizing the historic Yankton High/Middle School as the foundation. In addition to restoring this building to its original grandeur we strive to create an environment that will allow residents and guests of all ages to interact and give added value to the life experiences of everyone involved. Walnut Village provides an atmosphere where residents can casually stroll along Marne Creek, on the Auld-Brokaw Trail, play pool in the Great Room, work in the residents workshop in the 1910 power plant, read in the Library while sitting by the fireplace, relax near the waterfall, or choose one of many others ways to relax and enjoy life.
Walnut Village offers a protected supervised living environment for senior citizens. Walnut Village has 24 hour care. There is a Registered Nurse on staff in addition to other caregivers. There are many common areas available for the residents to enjoy. The residents’ room is the private domain of the resident. Residents may have it furnished according to their own personal taste. Residents are encouraged to bring furnishings from home. There is no reason to give up your familiar chair or bedroom arrangement. Meal Service, housekeeping, and laundry will be provided to all residents. Physical therapy, Occupational therapy, and Speech therapy can be arranged to be received on the premises. All arrangements will be made according to physicians’ orders and at the request of the resident. Personal care attendants assist the residents with activities of daily living that are becoming increasingly difficult for the individual to do on their own. Bathing, walking, eating, and bathroom are areas where many senior citizens have increasing difficulty. All of these will be included in the cares provided by the personal care attendants. Monitoring the overall health of the residents is an important function of all personal care attendants. Temperature, heart rate, weight, eating habits, personal hygiene, oral care, regularity, dietary restrictions, and medication maintenance are just a few of the areas that are observed. Social interaction with peers inside the facility and with the community is an important aspect of overall health. A full activity schedule will be available for every resident with his or her personal interests taken into consideration. Walnut Village will provide scheduled transportation for the residents to physicians’ appointments within the Yankton city limits.
