our philosophy for care in Oakland is to provide the highest level of quality and compassion and passionate care that we possibly can keeping our residents independent as long as possible and keeping them in their homes as long as possible I think I chose Oakwood Village because I went for a walk in the woods and I said this is it I've got to live here I've met a lot of people at Oakwood and and many of them have become my friends in the various activities I've gone to neighbors through other people at Oakwood it's very easy to make friends at Oakwood it really comes through in the values of the staff that we have here and and the word that comes to mind for me every day is compassion our staff love what they do and you can see that and they're really committed to ensuring that that resident has a smile on their face and they're having their birthday the people that you see every day that are working for you and working with you and these people all know your name and that is amazing that it's that way it seemed from the very beginning we have a great deal of diversity here both in terms of the residents that live here and the employees that serve them so I think in that kind of environment you have opportunities I think our Life Enrichment team is second to none there are things going on here all the time and employees and residents are engaged with each other in really meaningful ways we have three words that really encapsulate the philosophy of our Life Enrichment programming which is engage create and grow and we really try to emphasize and highlight what people's talents are by embracing them and really utilizing them to provide programming for one another and for others within our community we have a great auditorium for musical performances for lectures it's it is wonderful great transportation to take our residence on excursions off the campuses as well they'll go to Door County they'll go to Chicago they'll visit the museum's in Chicago so there's just more than you could possibly imagine today Oakland is a community and it's it's people who are engaged and living a vibrant life it is people serving people I don't know where else you you get that and I just think it's one of the most special places you anyone could ever live
