what becomes extremely important it seems to me is that we care for the whole person body mind and spirit we've always been really committed to making sure the residents are the center of what we do I think we did that even before we knew about person-centered care and really trying to do the best quality we knew how to do but we didn't know he's know how does it best so I want to talk a little bit about how we actually got involved in advancing excellence in the collaborative is one day we got a call from our quality assurance organization and they asked us if we would like to invite them to come and teach us how to work with our residents were restraint and give us a workshop on that and because we thought that we had to restrain our residents you know because that was dealing with keep them safe they came in and they gave us a workshop and we thought they did it because we were a good organization but we learned later we were invited because we had a hot one of the highest use of restraints in our area so they were giving us since I saw an issue they came in and they showed us how to do it better we worked with that group and we became restraint free prior to 2006 and we've never looked back and advancing excellence has been a really good resource for that their website is filled with many many excellent resources that help we have consistent assignment we keep John the journey of person-centered care keep doing better you learn different menus really making sure every decision is made closest to where the resident is we go back to the tools that advanced the excess offers us to see how we make sure we do that better and we also are working with coffee that you know quality assurance performance improvement program and that that's helping us also to guide us to on a more of a systems approach we're learning systems approaches now I think advancing excellence in the collaborative is helping us do that we have various ways of track in addressing different concerns and then we using the interactive which in you know we're in the CNAs play great world because they are able to catch you know anything that is new to the resident whether you know skin issue or whatever efforts and pride can become contagious maybe we need to start an epidemic you you
