we felt younger as soon as we moved in I mean it was the most wonderful experience to be here God instructs trees the birds were seen overhead it's just exudes warmth it's so much going on and I'm I just felt at home right away there are movies there are pizza parties there are the residents trips which will be going on this wonderful sense of community that we have here I didn't find that in other places the point that I really would like to stress would be don't wait you know come now Haven wood Heritage Heights was not originally founded as a continuing care retirement community it was founded as a chiral in facility where residents could come and retire so dr. burrows is our founding father and his goal was to build a place that people could come and they could have kind of the security and safety of congregate living in 1990 it all started to change and Havenwood heritage heights elected to become a continuing care retirement community which was really kind of a new and emerging breed as organ as an organization I knew that I wanted to move in a into a retirement community and I wanted a continuing care retirement community I didn't want my children to have to put me in a nursing home I wanted to make the decision so when I came here we had lunch with two residents and I was the first in the buffet line going through and I came to the table where we were gonna sit and a woman if the next table got up and said if you're alone won't you join us oh that was that was the decision my mom felt at ease immediately and as we walked around and toured the campus Donna knew everybody by name called out to them had small talk with him and it was apparent she had a relationship with each one of them this was more than just a client relationship but a personal one as well main street is like the hub of activity over in Haven would you have a variety of opportunities along Main Street there's a room called happenings and it is where we have our gourmet dinners once a month across the way is flix which is the movie theater there's the pool table in one run scoops which is the ice cream place most of these rooms have TVs available with Wii and Xbox and you know games like that I'm in an aerobics class there's Tai Chi there's yoga you can do all kinds of things to keep your body and mind alive and moving along as far as if you like doing with things with your hands there's all kinds of crafts available my point of view was a woodworking shop which is has all kinds of the best power equipment you could find anywhere this is a place where people are a joy to be with and a place where there is so much to do that you're gonna have to learn how to say no to some of it my mom had been a widow for several years and it had become very obvious to me that she was lacking in social interaction with people so we decided to open the idea of looking to bring her into a community where she would have both you know medical attention needed but more importantly a real community around her she has her own you know one-bedroom little condo it's fabulous and yet she's got medical alert capabilities 24/7 she's got you know on-site nursing she has all those opportunities but it's not a nursing home Leo took a ride to the hospital in an ambulance a few weeks back and luckily everything was okay but the system worked here well I didn't you really need to go to the hospital but we just want to see how that whole system work to you about in case we needed to press the button and yeah worked very well I also think it's a gift to my children I don't want them to worry about me or having to take care of me and they know right now that I'm in a good place and to have the different stages that I'm independent now and when I need assisted care I can move into that and when I need this nursing home care it's all available right here and a person that doesn't like to move so I say I was in my house for 53 years it's the relationship through which the services provided that makes the value proposition even greater and then that's apparent in every interaction that she has [Music] that you don't have to worry about the ice dams on the roof or the furnace being replaced I mean help is one phone call away whether it's for your stove or your body here to be taken care of and I cannot stress that enough so many people think ah oh my it's it's a it's an old folks home well we're not exactly you know kids to begin with and the beauty is seeing how well old folks live and how alive and vital they still are [Music] don't wait don't wait until you're you're either enfeebled or for some reason or other you just aren't physically able to make the move you need to do it while you're still able bodied well you can still think through the downsizing and all of that sort of thing that that really holds up a lot of people [Music] I told the kids it's really a gift that their father and I could do this together that we could make the decision together and also that we could decide what we want to keep what we want to give away they could decide what they wanted so it's just better to do it when there's no crisis because everything changes when there's a crisis [Music]

Title: Welcome to Our New Lobby!
Time: 1 min 33 sec

Description:

In 2016, we introduced a fresh new look to our lobby. Check it out!

Transcript:

[Music] well we recently redesigned the Haven Lobby in 2016 and I always say that we did this Lobby in front of a live audience because it took about 90 days like most projects take and you really can't cordon off the lobby because it's really kind of a means to an end to get to dining or get your mail so during the course of this 90 day project we had a lot of sidewalk superintendents which we actually loved that it really stimulates conversation around the organization so the lobby has really been turned into something very different very special the lobby has a fresh look it has new colors it has comfortable seating it's much more tailored than it's ever been before it has a very high appeal to the residents and they love it you can read a book out there it can be very quiet we do play a player piano most every day we have some type of music that's out there off of the beautiful baby grand piano we have folks that are out there pulling chairs together and making their own little set teas for a little bit having tea or coffee we want that to be a very pleasant environment where somebody can just come kick back relax and enjoy themselves that Lobby becomes an extension of the space that they're living and we want them to enjoy that space and all of our spaces you [Music]

Title: Our Premier Dining Options
Time: 3 min 15 sec

Description:

Dining is a very important element here at HHH. Not only does it impact our health and wellness, but there's a social aspect to dining. That is why we designed our dining rooms to be comfortable and welcoming with numerous menu selections. Our residents have a strong influence when it comes to what's on the menu at each campus. Additionally, we employ award-winning chefs for a premier (and delicious) dining experience, and we incorporate a healthy "H" logo for those looking to adhere to a healthy diet.

Transcript:

[Music] one of the major emphasis right now for us is dining in every level of our organization residents today believe that dining is a very important element of their lives because it really ties in to their overall health and wellness well first of all you want to make sure that the residents have a lot of input in the selection of our menus so we have different dining committees one on each campus that allows us to talk to the residents to see what they like what they don't like but our program involves making sure that our menu items whether they're posted at the venue or they're posted online has what we call our healthy H logo for all of our healthy items it helps the residents select more of a healthy diet our seasons Dining Room on the avon campus is a 94 seat restaurant style dining operation which has a way to waitress service it serves meals three times a day it's a excellent environment for people to go in sit down and relax but we also have other venues too if they don't want that specific time frame we have the Main Street Cafe which is also on the Havenwood campus which allows people to come and go freely over a period of time so they can get the foods that they want some of the innovative things that we have done is with our assisted living program in the lodge area at Havenwood we have created a separate dining area that has all the food served right there it's not on the tray people can come up see what they like we actually played it out for them right there so they can have their choices it's really innovative so much so that we're looking to create those types of environments in our health service and our skilled nursing facility I think they're definitely nuts and bolts to dining you can just have food and produce food I think we're more than that we have award-winning chefs who work at Haven wood Heritage Heights and one of the things that's really important is they have those chefs come out from behind the main kitchen and be out among the residents because they want to see how they're doing how is that great food that I prepare for you today how did you enjoy it and what can we learn from that I think the chef's do want to make sure their food is really being enjoyed because food is a critical satisfier for our residents we have brought on an executive chef Jason Seavey he has added so much to our dining program with menu development with the teaching of our cooking staff one of the things that struck me as he said he was so surprised at the quality of the food that we get he thought he was coming to a quote nursing home and he was coming to a retirement community that spares no expense this is the best job I've ever had the quality of life is incredible for from the employer and from the residents you feel like you have a purpose we're now in our ninth year of doing our Bistro dinners a bistro dinners are a once a month dinner that the chef is able to create a great four-course meal and by creating this four-course meal he can use some of his creativeness and to do this once a month it's a way for us to show our residents with a quality of food doesn't just end at that Bistro dinner it goes through all the food that we serve to all of our different residents that no matter what level of care there [Music]
